In bustling cities such as Atlanta, boutique fitness studios seem to be becoming as prevalent as Starbucks. Why? Because now more than ever, our society wants to feel better. That’s why we sweat it out five days a week and commit to healthier eating habits. But even that’s not the full picture.
No one understands that better than Westside’s STAT Wellness, a truly unique wellness destination that combines medicine and movement into a completely personalized prescription.
Opening their doors in February 2019, STAT Wellness (which stands for Strength to Achieve Total Wellness) is an all-in-one wellness space that provides a team of certified dieticians, nutritionists, personal trainers, and health coaches all committed to improving your overall health through what founder, nurse practitioner, and fitness professional Kristin Oja classifies as functional medicine. She has instilled an individualized approach to her concept, starting with your first visit, that allows experts to uncover the root causes of why you feel the way you do.
It’s looking past the simple questions that makes STAT different from your local studio. “We all know we need to eat cleaner and exercise more, but HOW and WHY and WHAT is best for my body?” Oja told us.
Your genes, your eating habits, your current exercise regimen, and overall lifestyle all play a significant factor in prescribing your specific diet and exercise plan and what supplements or medicines may need to be considered. So, make a mental note: this is not the place to be shy with the questions. Knowledge is literally power!
No matter the obstacle—high blood pressure, thyroid imbalances, weight loss—STAT wants every client to share the mindset that wellness is not a sprint but a holistic marathon, and they are with you every step of the way.
STAT, according to Oja, acts as a bridge between medicine and movement. And once you’ve got the medicine, your next move will be developing your “FIT prescription”. STAT offers three types of classes intentionally designed to help you achieve your fitness goals, all led by highly-experienced and well-decorated trainers. STAMINA is a HIIT-style workout that utilizes various equipment such as kettlebells and assault bikes to get your heart pumping and torch some serious calories. STRENGTH focuses on building muscle and perfecting form so you can maximize results and witness how effective strength training can be for your mind and body. STABILITY is—well, you guessed it—all about strengthening your core and improving balance and flexibility.
But your prescription isn’t limited to just one: “For example, if someone is trying to build muscle mass I am going to recommend 3 STRENGTH, 1 STAMINA, and 1 STABILITY per week.” Fitt Tip: if group fitness isn’t your cup of tea, their team is also available for one-on-one personal training.
Currently, knowing that there are no quick fixes in fitness or chronic medicine, STAT offers annual memberships for $199/month, but as a business committed to offering affordable and attainable health and wellness services, they have a whole slew of pricing options from class packages to health coaching and IV therapies.
Looking ahead, this hybrid and niche concept might be the first for Atlanta, but it won’t be the last. Kristin Oja and STAT have major plans for growth; they aim to perfect their concept with the goal of opening five new locations in five years, as well as consulting with clients nationwide through webinars and “courses”.
If you are ready to invest in yourself, a top-to-bottom health experience, we suggest you check it out, stat.
