Calling all Atlanta cyclists and serial studio-hoppers! You’re going to be pumped about adding Rukus Cycling’s unique, tech-heavy workouts to your regular routine. With heart rate monitoring, live updates on your RPM, and some extras no one else can claim in ATL, this immersive experience offers hardcore accountability! Get ready because this Southeast cycling brand has plans to set up shop all over town.
Their first local setup will open in May 2019 along the BeltLine at Dekalb Ave., neighbors to the new Shake Shack and minutes away from a post-workout pick-me-up at Krog Street or Irwin Street Market. Fitt Tip: Head to Krog Street for a grain bowl from Recess and Irwin for a cup of Mihoko’s Method Bone Broth.
But before you book a bike, let’s take a deeper look at this superpowered cycling experience. On a high level, classes, held in Rukus’s CycleArena, have similar LED-lit, concert-like vibes to those at CycleBar and SoulCycle, but Rukus inspires a little more friendly competition. During your sweat sesh, leaderboards display your real-time RukusScore: Power, Mileage, RPM and, of course, Points. The more points you earn from crushing it in class, the more stuff you can redeem them for, like gear and gift cards. Now that’s some extra motivation to outpace the riders to your right and left!
They offer quick 30- and 45-minute express sessions as well as 60-minute rides — and it’s not just cardio. Rukus works in resistance-band training to tone your upper-body while you’re pedaling, so it’s a full-body workout. Something new? Check out the Rukus Impulse class, the only heart rate-based indoor cycling class in the nation. It’s a super challenging, rhythmic ride designed to take you through five “Heart Rate Zones”. And if you’re breathing easy by the end of it, you’re not doing it right.
Rukus’s studios are all about using tech to bring you a better workout routine. For your first ride, your cycling shoes, a towel, and water are all offered complimentary, and yes, there are on-site showers. You’ll be walked through how to check in digitally and learn all about their On Demand Room — a super convenient way to cycle on your schedule. Also, a revolutionary development for those that struggle with punctuality: if you’re running behind or can’t make it to your favorite class one day, come in on your time and hop on a Peloton in their dedicated room for streaming classes. Game-changer.
There’s a lot to be excited about and in addition to the BeltLine edition, Rukus is also opening studios in Buckhead and Midtown this summer, so keep an eye out for what’s closest to you. Your first ride is free, too, so there’s no excuse not to put the pedal to the metal!
