Dance fitness has entered a new golden age — one, thankfully, without the thong leotards and legwarmers.
At the forefront of today’s craze, boutique studio AKT has an added benefit: Shakira’s actual personal trainer. Sure enough, Anna Kaiser, the creator of the AKT Method, was down in Miami prepping Shakira for her unforgettable Super Bowl halftime performance this past February.
Now, the show has come to Austin. Few details have emerged on where or when the first franchise location will arrive in town, but when it does, you’ll quickly get hooked on the choreographed, interval-based class lineup, including classes featuring resistance bands, free weights, medicine balls, and even foam rollers.
In that, AKT broke the mold of the cardio-dance, bringing strength and conditioning to the workout. Sure, you could strip away the music, the lights, and the pop star-proven choreography. But why would you want to do that?
