It’s no secret that Austinites love their coffee. And we've got some pretty awesome places to grab a cup. There's locally-owned Thunderbird Coffee, Flat Track in East Cesar Chavez, and Greater Goods Coffee Co. in East Austin and Bee Cave, to name a few. Which means we know a good coffee concept when we see one, and that makes news that trendy, Chicago-based Intelligentsia Coffee is opening its first Austin location this summer all the more exciting.
A good cup — no, a truly excellent cup of coffee can be hard to come by. Well, coffee-lovers, it’s time to make some noise — Intelligentsia's only Texas coffee bar is opening in Downtown Austin, right off Nueces St. in the Third + Shoal building, making getting your hands on your preferred caffeinated beverage much easier.
At Intelligentsia, they take their coffee very seriously and only brew the best. Case in point: they get their high-quality coffee beans from growers in Central and South America, as well as East Africa. And they’ve built Direct Trade relationships with these farms for over 15 years, meaning they work one-on-one with the people who source the beans for their coffee shops to ensure they’re only serving the freshest and most flavorful brews.
Consider yourself a coffee connoisseur who enjoys a super cool place to enjoy your cuppa? Then you’re in luck! Intelligentsia is known for its expertly-designed locations, many of which feature open floor plans and communal seating, and we're sure Austin's lobby-level location will be no different. Even better, the coffee chain plans to offer light bites and snacks sourced from local businesses. And if you're looking to avoid the caffeine jitters, they also carry Kilogram Tea, so no matter what you’re in the mood for, you’ve got options.
While opening details are still under wraps, follow along on their Instagram for updates. Once they make things official, we've got a feeling this might just be your new favorite place to grab a cup of joe.
