When it comes to farm-to-table salads, there’s no question healthy chain Sweetgreen is miles ahead of the competition. With a loyal fan base across the East and West Coasts, they’re now looking to expand their empire to new cities and solidify their stake as a national favorite. The next stop for everyone’s go-to fast-casual spot? Austin.
Cropping up sometime in early 2020 on South Congress, ATX will be the second Texas city lucky enough to sink its forks into Sweetgreen’s famed scratch-made salads and grain bowls.
But beyond scratch cooking and local sourcing, Sweetgreen is all about transparency. Step into any one of the eatery's locations and you’ll be met with an open kitchen where all the dicing, slicing, and spicing goes down right in front of you and a chalkboard list of their ingredients and the farms where they were grown.
Remaining true to its commitment to creating delicious meals using the highest quality ingredients and letting them speak for themselves, Sweetgreen lets Mother Nature and what their farmers are growing dictate their menu. So, don’t get too attached to your fave seasonal bowl — chances are it won’t be too long before it gets chopped (the menu changes five times a year to incorporate seasonal and regional ingredients and flavors).
Sweetgreen’s passion for real food shows, and you can see it in their bounty of bowl-food offerings prove that healthy can be downright tasty, filling, and nourishing.
Choose from core menu items like the Guacamole Greens, (the only item that’s been on the menu since day one), that's chock full of roasted chicken, avocado (obvi), tomatoes, red onions, tortilla chips, and organic mesclun with lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette. Or, build-your-own-salad by selecting a base, your pick four toppings, adding a crunch, and dressing it up. Oh, and word has it, they're hard at work in the kitchen, developing some Texas-specific culinary creations for the Austin menu that we seriously can't wait to try out.
Slated for a 2020 opening, Sweetgreen ATX is exactly what the local restaurant scene was missing. And with their compostable hexagonal bowls resulting in faster service and less waste, you won’t have to rush to get in line ahead of the crowds on opening day.
