Acai bowls, smoothie bowls, breakfast bowls, poke bowls, and more meal-in-a-bowls have taken our nation by storm. They’re healthy, delicious, and pretty to look at (get your Instagram ready). And we can’t forget to mention how filling they are—if a salad just doesn’t fulfill your hangry needs, spring for a hearty, healthy bowl. They’re packed with nutrients and flavor, allowing you to fuel your day and your body with no guilt about licking the bowl clean.
Is your mouth watering yet? Well, Baltimore, you’re in luck! There is no shortage of these delightful bowls in the city. And better yet, we’ve mapped out a bucket list of bowls. Now start checking these stops off your list (spoons provided)!
The nutrient-dense PLANTBAR in Belvedere Square Market is driven to bringing you a vibrant menu. Juices, smoothies, and wellness shots galore—all which support vegan, raw, paleo, and gluten-free lifestyles. Their smoothie bowls are one-of-a-kind and better yet, delicious. Don’t miss out on the Lightning Bowl either—a mixture of banana, blueberry, and chia seeds (to thicken the smoothie and surely fill you up) topped with almond butter, banana, apple, raw granola, bee pollen, and raw honey. Yum.
Need a great way to kickstart your day and fuel your body? Pure Raw Juice in Fed Hill and Towson will make that happen for you. Their acai bowls are enormous and there are so many options to choose from. So, bee pollen or cacao nibs? Feel free to modify the bowls on their menu, but if you just want the basics, go for their Traditional—topped with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and honey, with homemade granola at the bottom.
Shake up your bowl routine in Canton/Fells Point. EarthShake offers you acai bowls, juices, and smoothies—and with so many options, hopefully you’re not indecisive. Need a quick and healthy lunch? Stop by during the weekday between noon and 2pm for their happy hour—a $7 bowl special. The price is unbeatable and they sure don’t skimp on the toppings.
Stall 11 in Remington’s R. House offers a 100% plant-based menu, so you’re guaranteed the freshest ingredients. Get a smoothie bowl, breakfast scramble bowl, or, if you want to spice things up a bit, try the Bun Chay Bowl—a bowl of flavorful rice noodles, ginger tofu, and vegetables drizzled with a tangy chili lime dressing. Order up!
The cafe equivalent to PLANTBAR, Zia’s Cafe in Towson is an extension of that favorite juice bar in Belvedere. Committed to the raw lifestyle, you sure can find the healthier sandwiches here. But let’s talk about their buddha bowl—an arugula and quinoa base topped with chickpeas, cucumber, avocado, grilled veggies, feta, and a green goddess dressing. We’re drooling. Are you?
Nothing to cover up here; MOM’s Organic Market’s in-house eatery Naked Lunch in Hampden is a vegetarian’s dream. Order up rice bowls filled with the freshest vegetables and, if you desire, marinated tofu for that extra protein. Next time you get hungry perusing the aisles of the market, order their Moler Bowl—pilaf and black bean base topped with sweet potatoes, kale, mushrooms, mixed pepper, avocado, and feta tossed in a herb vinaigrette. Who said grocery shopping on an empty stomach was a bad thing?
In case you haven’t heard, sushi is now served in bowl form. At R. House in Remington, Hilo Poké sets up shop, serving the buzzy, new bowl: poke! Though, if you want your crab fix, Baltimore, may we recommend the Sassy Bowl—which includes crab meat, scallops, tuna and a load of fresh Asian-seasoned vegetables. After you get your order, post up at the r. bar across from Hilo.
Korean inspired, this joint offers the goods when it comes to bowls—grain bowls, that is! Dooby’s of Mt. Vernon is a go-to spot for savory grub. They have a build-your-own-bowl style—pick a base of rice or super greens, add a protein (options for the carnivore and omnivore), then pick a sauce (we dare you to pick the ghost chili). If you haven’t made a stop there yet, give it a try!
This lean, green machine has unbelievably tasty food! What makes it even cooler is that it’s a meal on wheels. The Green Bowl Food Truck (follow their Twitter to keep up with their location) offers Asian- and Latin-inspired bowls, which are perfect for any taste. Choose a bowl of Bibimbap (Korean rice) with bean sprouts, zucchini, carrots, and an egg (omnivore or vegetarian options for toppings available), or choose a Green Bowl—the same as the Bibimbap option, but instead of rice, a bed of greens.
