  • Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon and Festival

    More than 18,000(!) people gather in San Francisco each year to watch 2,000 brave souls take on this killer triathlon. Starting with a 1.5-mile swim in frigid waters from Alcatraz Island, participants will then take on a super hilly 18-mile bike ride followed by an eight-mile run. They’ll then be rewarded for all their hard work at the finish line where a ton of health and fitness products, services, and grub await to congratulate racers on a job well done.

    Featuring a full-blown triathlon in one of Australia’s hottest and harshest climates, this festival doesn’t mess around. But it’s not all about no pain, no gain. If biking, swimming, and running through sweltering weather isn’t really your speed, there are still plenty of reasons to take the trip Down Under to this festival.     Calling all biking badasses! This festival is just for you. Taking place on a former ski resort in Brownsville, Vermont, this all-levels mountain bike festival is a biker’s dream come true. There are guided rides through a picturesque landscape, expert-run clinics to up your knowledge game, and super silly events to keep you laughing — like adults racing tiny bikes while kids chase them with water balloons.

    This festival is, in a word, awesome. And that’s because festival founder, lululemon (with HQ in Vancouver), didn’t hold back one bit while planning it. Festival-goers will start by getting down on an oceanfront half-marathon race, then finish up with a beautiful sunset yoga recharge session. But it’s the post-race party with famed yogis, indie music concerts, trapeze artists, and limited-release local beer that really sets this festival apart.

And for those runners who are feeling extra ambitious, they’ve got multiple-race options like The Hat Trick that includes a 5k, 10k, and half marathon.
