If you care at all about what you eat or drink, you’ll know 3 Little Figs has become a go-to spot for Somerville natives thanks to its artisan coffee, mouth-watering pastries, and excellent phyllo pie whipped together with sheep’s milk, feta, and locally-grown spinach. (Seriously, if you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out on life.)
Now, the sunny daytime spot has added a brand new addition next door that offers slightly healthier options inspired by their head chef’s love for all things organic and plant-based. It’s about time someone showed Somerville’s healthy food scene some love.
A petite menu for a petite space
Appropriately dubbed the Health Club, this tiny extension to the original restaurant features a simple menu full of salads, bowls, smoothies, and sparkling beverages made with leafy greens and superfoods like kale, avocado, chia coconut water, ginger lucuma — the list goes on. (The Mango Turmeric smoothie and Galactic Berry smoothie sound particularly enticing.)
For those with dietary restrictions, this is your place — every item is gluten-free, soy-free, and meat-free. Plus, you have the option to make everything vegan-friendly by opting to skip the eggs in your salad or bowl. (Whoop whoop!)
And the space itself is an Instagram haven. Comfortably seating eight inside, the Health Club also plans to set up some sidewalk seating whenever spring finally decides to roll around. Until then, snag a spot inside, where you’ll be welcomed by a wall of succulents (of the artificial variety) and a unique mural that depicts owner Katie Rooney’s interpretation of a cosmic Greek goddess that celebrates health and wellbeing. It doesn’t get more zen than that.
Welcome to the club
The Health Club is now open at 278a Highland Ave., the hard-to-miss space next to 3 Little Figs.
Swing by between 8am to 4pm Tuesday through Sunday. But don’t bother bringing along your laptop — they don’t offer Wi-Fi or allow computers on weekends, so you can kick back, relax, and really enjoy your healthy beverage or meal of choice.
Congratulations, you’re officially part of the Health Club.
