Burger with a side of kale salad? So basic. Burger on a kale bun? So Boulder.
That’s right — at Boulder’s newest Japanese restaurant, you can go beyond the bread and sandwich your protein between something better.
Japanese with a twist
Osaka’s is putting a twist on the traditional with a new way to eat burgers — and a new way to eat Japanese.
It’s called the Osaka Burger, and it uses okonomiyaki—a traditional, savory pancake—as a bun in a lineup of Japanese-inspired sandwiches. Typical okonomiyaki is made with a combination of noodles, eggs, and cabbage. Osaka’s offers this, but also a version that swaps the noodles for a leaner and greener choice — kale! Between them, you can choose anything from mushrooms and fried egg to teriyaki chicken and sukiyaki beef.
They’re the first restaurant in the US to serve this unique take on traditional Japanese fare, and they’re betting on Boulder to embrace it as a healthy (and quirky) choice.
And a taste of tradition
But it isn’t all bizarre buns at Osaka’s. They new restaurant also serves up some traditional Japanese fare, like miso soup, grilled yakimono, and rice-based gohan mono dishes. And again because this is Boulder, they’re joining the many other restaurants who mark their menu with items friendly to those eating gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian.
Classic or kinda crazy, Osaka’s serves all its plates with a gracious side of omotenashi (that indescribable Japanese hospitality). They’re open daily for lunch, dinner, and happy hour (konnichiwa, sake!) at 2460 Canyon Blvd.
