All of Boulder’s Best Local Run Clubs

Let’s be honest – pounding out mile after mile on a long run day is the worst. Lucky for you, Boulder is a running mecca, home to greats like Kara Goucher and Scott Jurek. That means there are a ton of local groups to run with because who doesn’t want to be the next Kara Goucher or Scott Jurek?

So whether you are training for the Olympics (seriously), your next 5K, or something in between, there’s a group in Boulder running at your pace.

Rev Running was created by local husband/wife team Heather and Ewen North, who believe in supporting runners to have fun while working hard. Heather is a physical therapist and runs Red Hammer Rehab in Louisville, too, and is great about getting runners back on their feet (literally) in no time. They have coaches in Boulder and in Denver, and offer group workouts throughout the week, with long runs on the weekend. You can sign up for a seasonal training program or one-on-one coaching, and you can find them in Denver, Boulder, or Louisville

This is Boulder. Of course there is a group dedicated to trail runners. The group is over 2,000 members strong, so there’s a good chance you’ll make a new running best friend to bump elbows with They have morning and evening runs almost every day during the week and long weekend runs, too. FYI: If you come out with the Boulder Trail Runners, be ready for any weather, any temperature, any season. Join their Yahoo! Group or Facebook Page to get on the email list for run locations (usually in and around Boulder).

The Boulder Track Club has been around since 2011, and caters to runners of all ages, sizes, and ability levels – they even have a youth group training for 5-12 year olds! There are several coached groups based on ability level (high performance, development, and general group runs). They also offer free, public runs on Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Monday and Saturday runs start at Fleet Feet Sports on Broadway, and Sunday runs are all around Boulder. Check out their website for specifics. Plus, each year they also choose 10 members to represent the team as ambassadors, which includes swag from Fleet Feet Sports.

If there’s one thing runners love more than running, it’s eating. Some of us (ahem) might even run just so they can eat more. If this sounds like you too, check out the Boulder Trail Running Breakfast Club. It’s a group that is “as serious about their trail running as the breakfast that follows”. They meet up at different locations from Boulder to Rocky Mountain National Park for a run and breakfast afterward.

If running with others isn’t motivation enough, how about being coached by an Olympian? Led by 4-time Olympian Colleen De Reuck, Boulder Striders offers members coached group training sessions and customized training schedules. They work hard and play hard, too, with regular social events (like drinks after runs!). You can train for destination races, local races, or even just get back into shape (we’ve all been there).

The best part? There are post-run refreshments from Avery Brewing and Savory Cuisines. And they regularly give out sweet running swag, so what do you have to lose?

The Irish pub is at 13th and Walnut, and they even give you free pasta and salad afterward. If we push ourselves, we’ll tie one off with a Guinness too.

Boulder Road Runners

Boulder Road Runners is the oldest running club in the area, formed in 1979. There is a minimal annual fee, so it won’t break the bank. The group meets up for local running events and at the Boulder Public Library for long runs on Sundays. Want to line up in the blocks? They also host track meets in the summer at CU’s Frank Potts Field. The Road Runners are open to runners of all ages and abilities, and the men’s 60+ team consistently wins the national USATF Masters Championship (get it, old guys!). Not just a running club, the team members host social events (meet them every First Monday at Avery Brewery!), and regularly volunteer at local races.
