With so many workouts offered throughout Chicago, deciding which one to commit to on any particular day can be difficult. But if you’re craving a high-intensity sweat-sesh without being high-impact, or one with controlled resistance that will make you shake just as much as you’ll sweat, then a new-age, Reformer Pilates class is a no-brainer.
Of course, so goes the trend with our fitness scene, Chi-town has plenty of Pilates studios to choose from. But by the time you’re done reading our list of the top spots, you’ll be able to confidently book any leg-shaking, muscle-strengthening class you choose.
Recognized as one of the best Pilates studio in Chicago, this River North boutique is worth checking out sooner rather than later. The scenic studio, which includes brick walls and unmatched views of downtown, offers Allegro 2 Reformer group classes, private sessions, prenatal classes, and a bootcamp program. The latter, an intensive Reformer-based program, requires a four week commitment and includes three set classes a week. Flex thrives on the motto that once you take a class, it soon becomes part of your daily lifestyle. We recommend putting it to the test.
Studio Lagree ramps things up a bit using the Megaformer, a machine that will have you sweating, shaking, and feeling muscles you never even knew you had within minutes of class. Lagree offers Sebastien Lagree’s 50-minute signature class, but each session is different and will leave a lasting impression for days after. You can check out one of Chicago’s hardest workouts in the West Loop, River North, Old Town, and Lincoln Park.
What some call the SoulCycle of Pilates, [solidcore] will have you shaking to the beat of the music. As soon as class begins, energetic instructors will have fire up that sweet muscle-burning sensation on [solidcore]’s unique [sweatlanta] machine to motivating jams, all under the studio’s signature blue lights. You’ll leave feeling like a rock star… one who might want to avoid stairs for a few hours.
With 21 studios in the Chicagoland area including North Center, Lincoln Park, and the West Loop, Club Pilates is hard to miss when looking for a studio that welcomes all levels. The smaller space allows for more personalized instruction from each friendly instructor throughout a variety of 45- and 60-minute classes. And although some are Reformer/Jumpboard Reformer-based, other classes are done on a mat and with equipment. Note: private sessions are also available for beginners and those who want more one-on-one instruction.
