In Chicago, we believe surviving the winter should come with a celebration that lasts all spring long. Preferably on a rooftop. With yoga. And good tunes. Make ’em R&B. If this sounds like a Chi-towner’s post-winter-blues dream, then Whiskey Business is about to make it come true.
As of April 28th, one of Wicker Park’s biggest nighttime hot spots is welcoming all yogis to its rooftop for an hour of R&B Yoga every Saturday morning until June. But this isn’t your average yoga series.
Hatha- and Vinyasa-certified yoga instructor Lauren Spearman founded the concept of R&B Yoga, which currently only exists in two cities: LA and ours. Spearman, who is originally from Humboldt Park, learned from a young age how important exercise is, but also how limited it can be for many. R&B Yoga was derived from her determination to make yoga more accessible to underprivileged communities, those of color, and anyone looking for a fun and energetic release.
Come prepared to sweat, smile, and maybe even dance — and with a live DJ, how can you not? Each class is set to the theme of a different R&B singer/group, which you can check out ahead of time when registering for each session (artists like Kanye, Kendrick, and SZA). On April 28th though, prepare to move to the musical stylings of Migos. Yep — Stir Fry and savasana.
Getting down to business
Did we mention that tickets to class include a brunch buffet and bottomless mimosas until noon? They totally do, and it all goes down on the rooftop, so plan to nama’stick around.
Since this yoga series is such a popular one, we suggest booking ahead of time here. All yogis must be at least 21, and don’t forget a mat and some shades. Fitt Tip: If you’ve ever been to Whiskey Business, you know how hard it is to leave (on account of good times) — especially while on the rooftop. Bring some extra sunscreen; your skin will thank you.
