Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor is by far one of the coolest parts about downtown. The small green space is smack dab on the outskirts of FirstEnergy Stadium, overlooking Lake Erie. While the city’s skyscrapers are towering behind you, there’s nothing but lake in front of you.

Not to mention the North Coast Harbor offers a ton of activities in the warmer months. From Lakefront Leagues to weekly yoga to bootcamps — the harbor is getting Clevelanders up and moving. And it’s about to get even better because a run group has been added to the mix.

TRAVEL IN PACKS

We can’t be the only ones who loathe running around downtown alone, right? Well, with Ship Shape Running Club, now you won’t have to! Brought to us by The Downtown Cleveland Alliance, they’re bringing in coaches from Fleet Feet Sports to host each run. And there’s no need to map out a route or find a running buddy last minute — all the hard work is done for you, you just gotta show up.

Running routes will change weekly and vary, but are typically around three miles (though that mileage might go up as the summer rages on). Each route will be posted before a meet-up on their Facebook page, and will be about an hour long.

But don’t start dreading the thought of an hour-long run just yet. Each run will have a warm up, some circuit training thrown in, and a cool down. Plus, you’re meeting a bunch of like-minded runners who are in it with you!

JOIN THE CLUB

Beginning May 24 (through October 25), Ship Shape hosts runs every Thursday evening at 6pm. Each run will begin and end at North Coast Harbor, and before you start cursing at the thought of parking downtown, make your way to the free lot behind FirstEnergy Stadium and then jog over to Voinovich Bicentennial Park.

These runs are totally free, so there’s no registration required, but they do suggest arriving a few minutes early to sign a waiver and to partake in a group stretch.

So dust off those sneakers, grab some friends, and get ready to work on those sea legs.
