You don’t have to be totally obsessed with rock climbing to be 100% pumped about the latest concept landing in the Design District. Introducing Planet Granite, a massive indoor climbing facility that plans to shake up the Dallas fitness scene in 2020.
Planet Granite got its start way back in 1994, when climbing gyms were a rarity and you had to travel the country to practice the sport. Founder Micky Lloyd wanted to make climbing available to everyone, no matter where they lived, and he wanted to make training easy for athletes like himself.
Over the past 20+ years, he’s made that dream a reality, and now, his team is planning to add a vibrant new element to the rapidly-growing Design District: a top-of-the-line indoor climbing gym.
At 42,000 square feet, Planet Granite’s upcoming location has room for absolutely everything. Think a 50-foot wall for lead and top-rope climbing, bouldering terrain, and a yoga-specific studio featuring regularly scheduled classes. Not to mention a lineup of group fitness classes and a separate strength training area. Add in its convenient location, and we’ve got a feeling it won’t take any time at all for this place to become a go-to for fitness fans of all kinds, not just climbers.
Still getting acquainted with this whole indoor rock climbing thing? No worries. Planet Granite will feature climbing classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced. And if you need to replace some of your gear or finally spring for that pair of climbing shoes you’ve been eyeing, the on-site gear shop has you covered.
Opening day details are still under wraps, but once we know, you’ll know. Oh, and keep an eye out — rumor has it a second location is coming mixed-use development The Hill. It’s only a matter of time before you’ll be chalking up and crushing those crags!
