Like many things in Detroit, we like to say Detroit Body Garage is a studio with a soul. What exactly do we mean by soul? The studio has a unique welcoming and community-driven energy that permeates through all that they do—from daily classes to specials events—and the feeling is contagious. Your vibe attracts your tribe, after all!
Detroit Body Garage has a variety of ass-kicking, fun, and functional workouts. Don’t be daunted by a good ass-kicking though — there’s no need to be an expert, and the top-notch trainers will guide you through.
While they offer yoga and a Mechanics class to keep your body running like a well-oiled machine, the Vehicle of Change (they love car puns) is their signature Detroit Body Garage class. Here, they encourage you to try things with your body that may otherwise be intimidated to do—in a controlled, safe environment—using everything from barbells and kettlebells to bodyweight and bands.
It’s not a one-size-fits-all scheme though, meaning you’ll have your pick at the barbell basics Torque or crush a quick 30-minute HIIT Tune-Up and gain the confidence doing it with your new tribe.
The focus on community here is indescribable, but we’ll give it a shot… This true Detroit establishment nestled in the heart of the up-and-coming West Village has no stigmas of your typical gym. Founded by homegrown triathlete Terra Castro, she brought this studio to Detroit in the hopes of inspiring surrounding community to embrace movement and be directly part of the rebuilding culture in Detroit.
And she has really doubled-down with community. DBG is super involved in bringing the Detroit community together through movement, whether it’s group challenges, Monday Night “Be Bold Runs”, or some post-workout refuel at their West Village neighbor Sister Pie.
Convinced? How could you not be? Check out their class schedule here and get 50% off your first class with email sign up. And make a point to get there for your next workout… because your body is probably past inspection.
