Fast-casual eateries seem to be all the rage right now — there’s just something so appealing about being able to stop in for a quick bite in your gym clothes. Throw in a healthy, sustainable flair to the mix, and you’ve got a winning combination.
Ferndale plant-based restaurant GreenSpace gets that. And they’ve taken neighboring Royal Oak by storm in the most convenient way.
A spin-off of the successful vegan restaurant GreenSpace, the new GreenSpace & Go is a concept focused on fresh, made-on-the-spot, portable foods. Founded by vegan cardiologist Joel Kahn (known as America’s Heart Healthy Doc) and his wife, GreenSpace & Go can now be found at 32867 Woodward in Royal Oak.
The space features seating for 20 and an equal number of parking spaces. Plus, additional plans for outdoor seating in the works.
Want to know something cool about GreenSpace & Go? Both the eatery and its sister restaurant are the first Midwest restaurants to have certificates from PlantPure‘s Communities Restaurant Campaign, an initiative that recognizes establishments that offer healthy, plant-based, and oil-free meals.
With a sign on the front of the building that says, “Food is medicine,” the restaurant states that all their ingredients are gluten-, soy-, nut-, GMO-, oil-, and preservative free, as well as being wholly sustainable and organic as possible.
The new vegan hot spot offers up an eclectic menu of bowls, wraps, salads, soups, smoothies, baked goods, and more. Bowls can be pre-made—like the Simple Life, which contains spiced chickpeas, roasted sweet potato, steamed broccoli, arugula, pickled vegetables, and beet hummus — or you can make your own bowl from a list of grains, veggies, proteins, and sauces.
Wraps can be made gluten-free or with collard green leaf and include options like the Sweet Life with ginger tempeh, massaged kale, sweet potato, chopped broccoli, pickled vegetables, and green onion aioli.
And not only does the restaurant boast a full menu of delicious eats, but it also features a selection of smoothies. The tasty drinks are made mostly with fruits and vegetables, with no yogurt or ice cream. Fitt Tip: try the Blissful, made with cashew, cinnamon, banana, ashwagandha (say that five times fast), spirulina, and vanilla-oat milk. Or maybe the Chocolate Healer is more your style, with its cacao powder, cashew butter, vanilla, maple syrup, dates, avocado, and medicinal mushroom blend.
It’s important to note that everything on GreenSpace & Go’s menu is all clearly marked with indicators like plant-perfect (PP), nut-free (NF), and more. And with over 100 vegetables, 25 fruits, and 20 spices to choose from, there’s something for everyone!
Come see and taste for yourself — grab, go, then, in all likelihood, return the next day at Royal Oak’s newest gem.
