Everyone loves a good food truck, but trying to track down your favorite can get tiresome when you’re hungry. That won’t be the case anymore with plant-based favorite Shimmy Shack, as it has just found a new home in Plymouth Township.

MOVING AND SHAKING

A popular vegan and gluten-free staple in Detroit, Shimmy Shack made its start in 2013 with the intention of showing that vegan food can be “sexy, fun, delicious AND healthy.”

Now, the green and pink truck rolled into a permanent space in Plymouth Township with founder Debra Levantrosser opening the eclectic space mid-2018.

The new restaurant carries over the classic, retro feel with tons of 1950s-style decor. But that’s not all… The brick-and-mortar location also features retail space for vegan goods and vintage pop-ups featuring vegan clothing (clothing without using furs, wool, silk, or leather).

VEG-AMERICAN

The legacy lives on, as the new spot serves the food truck’s American-style staples: burgers, fries, coney dogs, and milkshakes (not exactly the healthiest stuff on their menu, but clear favorites). Staples like the “Classic burger,” which features lettuce, vegan cheese, tomato, pickles, mustard, and ketchup dressing a grilled lentil patty between two gluten-free buns. Or maybe you’re in the mood for the “Shimmy Coney,” which is a soy dog drizzled with Shimmy’s famous vegan chili and mustard.

Other offerings include nachos, sweet potato and regular fries, chili cheese fries, and a falafel pita. Talk about yum!

Craving dessert? Shimmy’s got it covered. The truck turned restaurant offers an array of vegan “milk” shakes made with rice-based ice cream and rice milk. There’s chocolate, cookie monster and, strawberry. Oh, and don’t forget about the cookies. Shimmy Shack offers three vegan cookies, like the best-selling Cowgirl Cookie. Made with chocolate chips, oats, toasted walnuts, and peanut butter, it’s a sweet treat you can’t resist.

Next plant-based cheat day, no matter what you’re craving, make sure to swing by and visit Shimmy Shack’s new storefront.
