It’s the first official month of fall here in Cleveland and we all know the pumpkins, sweater weather, and cider are on the way. But even better than pumpkins, the lineup of fit and active events for September is killer. From the NEOCycle Festival to Hike and Seek and the September Pub Run, there’s still plenty of opportunities to get outside and stay active in The Land this month.
Believe in CLE
It’s finally here: the annual Believe in CLE yoga movement at the Rock Hall goes down this September! This enormous yoga class, led by Inner Bliss Yoga Studio, is a relaxing way to celebrate our city. Bend, stretch, and feel the burn as you join hundreds of people in this hour-long class. Oh, and don’t forget to keep the zen-party rolling by staying after the class for music, food, and fun!
Run the Red Line 5k
Run along Cleveland’s RTA Red Line at the Run the Red Line 5k. This outdoor urban course will take you through different trails and sites around the city that you definitely don’t see everyday. Signing up doesn’t just get you a spot in this 5k, though, it also gets you into their post-run party at Forest City Brewery filed with beer, games, and good times.
The nation’s largest urban cycling festival is happening all weekend at Edgewater Park. Night rides, mountain bike races, scramble events, plus music, food, and drinks—if you’re a bike-lover, this event was made for you.
Second Annual Sunset Ride at NeoCycle
To kick off the NEOCycle Festival, Harness is launching a sunset ride at Edgewater Park. They’re hauling 70 indoor cycle bikes to the park for an hour-long ride followed by live music, cold beer, live music, and one hell of a sunset.
Hike and Seek
Case Western Reserve is putting on a five-location event called Hike and Seek through the Cleveland Metroparks. Hike the trails, seek out landmarks, spy on a few birds, and post the images to the event’s Facebook page for a chance to win some prizes. Grab some friends (furry, four-legged friends, too) and get to hikin’!
River Run Half Marathon
The River Run Half Marathon is coming to the Rocky River Reservation this fall for its 18th year! Get in on the fun for a road course that is scenic, smooth and yes—flat!
Tunnel to Towers 5k Run and Walk
In a way to honor our military and first responders, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation brings Medina the Tunnel to Towers 5k Run and Walk.This fundraiser is a way for the organization to give back to those who’ve helped us gain so much. Set up a team, fundraise, and put your your sneakers to the concrete.
Head of the Cuyahoga
Attention rowers! The Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta is back and it’s one sweet, sweet ride. This event is open to former and current rowers to conquer a 4800-meter course along the Cuyahoga River. There will be food trucks, vendors, and merchandise, and hopefully some good weather.
Hike, Run, and Explore
The Hike, Run, and Explore offers both a 5K and 10K run that go through the nature habitats in Shaker Lakes. But if timed races aren’t your thing, you can sign up for one of four different hike distances (12 miles, five miles, four miles, and one mile) to explore nature. Then, enjoy food, drinks, and a beer garden post sweat!
September Pub Run
Hey, runners! Did you know that Fleet Feet Sports Cleveland hosts a free pub run every third Wednesday of the month? Join ’em to run 3.5 miles throughout downtown Cleveland. All levels of runners are welcome, and invited to stay after the run for some brews with friends. It all begins at Market Garden Brewery at 6:30.
CycleBar Pop-Up Ride
Join the team at CycleBar Beachwood for a pop-up ride at the Cleveland Heart Walk at Mall C. Count on view of Lake Erie, your registration fee will help the American Heart Association, and you get a kickass workout in while doing some good.
Best Buddies Friendship Walk & Kyrie Irving Basketball Challenge
Kyrie Irving is a big deal in Cleveland. Regardless of where he ends up, he still helped win Cleveland a championship. And this fall, he’s helping out with the Best Buddies Friendship Walk and hosting a Basketball Challenge. The walk benefits those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while the basketball challenge gives participants the chance to play for a change.
If you’re down for riding bikes and drinking beer, Bikes N’Brew is the event for you. Choose one of three different routes (20, 40, or 60 miles), and ride along a trail to visit local breweries. Throughout the day, you’ll grab up to five samples from each brewery, tacos from Bomba Tacos, and a pint from Forest City Brewing.
Cleveland Undy Run and Walk
Strip down to those undies and run to increase awareness of colon cancer. No t-shirts here—your participation earns you a pair of race day boxers. Meet at the East Bank of the Flats and get ready to run this 5k in nothing but your undies!
GoRuck Tough Challenge
Former Military vet, Jason McCarthy, decided to combine the military and civilian way of life by creating the GoRuck Tough Challenge. Participants get to choose between the Heavy, Tough, or Lite course before packing a bag filled with water and weights. Get ready for a tough as nails challenge and you push your body to its limit while getting a taste of what those who serve in our military go through.
The Towpath Trilogy ends this October with the Towpath Marathon. Runners can pick the full marathon, half-marathon, or the 10K, and run throughout Cuyahoga Valley National Park while enjoying some incredible views.
Cleveland Light the Night
Support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night Walk.. Register a team, make some t-shirts, and take a stroll beginning at Wade Oval for a great cause.
Barbells for Boobs
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, so get in the spirit with CrossFit Sixth City. Meet at the Cleveland Public Auditorium on Lakeside for one hell of a WOD with CrossFit-lovers across the city. Create a team and feel good knowing all money raised will be donated to Barbells for Boobs.
Cleveland Clinic Wellness 5k Run and Walk
Give your health a high-five, and join the Cleveland Clinic for a Wellness 5k Run and Walk. You’ll start at Upper Edgewater Park and make your way through the 5K course. All runners will receive a t-shirt, post-race refreshments, and a raffle ticket to win a Vitamix and a Garmin wearable.
3rd Annual Spooktacular 5k and 1 Mile Casper Crawl
October = Halloween, so get in on the 3rd Annual Spooktacular 5k and one-mile Casper Crawl at Sunny Lake Park in Aurora. There will be a best costume contest and, of course, some Halloween candy. Throw on a costume, work up a sweat, and get in the zone for Halloween night.
Susan G. Komen NEO Race for the Cure
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure comes to Cleveland every October. This year, the NEO Race for the Cure begins at Canal Park Stadium in Akron. Dress in pink, raise money for the cause, and let’s kick breast cancer’s ass one step at a time.
Join 3Dee Cycles and friends at Tremont’s Lincoln Park before hitting the Towpath for a spooky and dark ride. Bring some lights, some water, and try something new this October.
