We know that when you’re heading out for a Mexican feast, making it healthy probably isn’t your top priority. Thankfully, the following establishments have both your taste buds and health in mind, so you no longer have to choose between the two!

Let’s be real — finding a fish taco on a menu that’s not battered and deep fried is not an easy task. But that’s where Soho’s Corazón comes in. Their flavourful and fun selections include their Swordfish Al Pastor taco that’s marinated in orange before being grilled to perfection and accompanied by blackened pineapple and serrano salsa. Their multiple vegetarian options do not disappoint, either. The Calabacin taco is a particularly is a light and tasty delight. It features both grilled courgettes and courgette flowers with jalapeño, Oaxaca cheese, and a sprinkling of sunflower seeds for a protein crunch.

There’s nothing quite like a little food fusion, especially when it’s Mexican meets East African. Lemlem Kitchen in Netil Market, East London is known for their speciality ‘afro-tacos’, and for good reason. Forget a corn tortilla, at this eatery, their taco shells are made from a base of spongy injera bread and it’s soft enough to soak up all the spicy juices running out of your star anise chicken, pulled lamb, or split pea filling. With house-made sauces, afrobeats, and sunny vibes from all the lovely staff, Lemlem will feeds your heart as well as your stomach.

A funky, upbeat party vibe AND an incredible taco menu — what else could you possibly want from a Mexican restaurant? Not only are the blue and white Mexican nativo corn tortillas made daily in house, they’re also sold wholesale, so you can try making your own healthy(ish) tacos at home. But if you’re dining in at their SouthBank or Stanworth St. spot, you must try their classic El Pastor made with 24-hour marinated pork shoulder, caramelised pineapple and guacamole taquero — it’s so good that they named the restaurant after it. You’ll come here for just the tacos and end up ordering most of the menu, it’s inevitable — just surrender to the five homemade salsas and enjoy yourself.

Tacos are Taqueria’s speciality. At this Westbourne eatery, everything from their free-range chicken and line-caught fish to their organic prawns are thoughtfully- and sustainably-sourced. Trust us — the prawn taco is the best on a very full line-up. Griddled prawns with garlic, guac, raw carrot and chipotle salsa means you’re in for zingy, fresh, and delicious handheld! Taquería also features a ‘Naked Taco’, where your tortilla is exchanged for a lettuce leaf! And, if you’re feeling like treating yourself to a less healthy option, then definitely try one of their deep-fried oyster tacos.

Opened by the Wahaca franchise, DF/ Mexico is known for packing their tacos with insane amounts of filling. Best loved are the the Ancho Mushrooms tacos made with oven roasted mushrooms, mojo de ajo, red slaw, and Mexican-style Sriracha salsa. They also offer a taco sharing board with multiple options for when you can’t choose just one. Plus, they’ve got two vegan taco options and you can ask for a corn tortilla if you’re gluten-free. The best part? DF/Mexico’s locations in both Tottenham Court Road and Shoreditch are committed to sustainable sourcing, and that goes a long way for both your body and the environment.

Translated literally, Jinjuu means ‘pearl’ and this modern Korean restaurant is certainly a treasure! Sharing is the focus here with small plates in abundance and lots of side dishes and starters, but let’s talk about the tacos. At this Soho sit down, choose from a selection of handhelds include bulgogi beef, seabass, and mushroom. Each is loaded with traditional Mexican flavours (like avocado, of course) as well as spicy Korean notes — the mushrooms are sautéed in miso. Yep, the tacos at Jinjuu are like none you’ve ever eaten.

A London Bridge gem, Santo Remedio specializes in traditional Mexican cooking and looks only for the most authentic flavours. The interior is light and modern, but it’s worth mentioning they are also home to an acclaimed tequila bar. On to the food menu, you must try the Flautas, which are baby potato crispy tacos with avocado salsa and pickled red onion. We also recommend the grilled Cactus Slaw for an unusual and delicious addition your beef barbacoa taco and its accompanying watermelon radish. Talk about a flavor explosion.
