Ask any zen master about mindfulness and they’ll tell you it’s not a trend, it’s a way of life. But when you live in a busy city like London, getting squashed on the tube, spending hours in rush hour traffic, or paying £20 for a five-minute cab ride can quickly destroy all attempts to block out the noise and clear your mind.
If only there was a place where you could enjoy some chill time in the middle of the day. Well, there is now! Expected spring 2019, London will get its first drop-in meditation studio, and we’re very excited. Here’s why.
Inhere has been offering workplace meditation classes to City workers since 2017, but they’ve always been pretty low-key about it. Luckily, their founders have decided to open a full-scale meditation studio that’s available for anyone to drop into whenever they feel like it.
Once the new Fitzrovia studio opens later this year, you’ll be able to join in with group meditation sessions, or head to a private mediation pod for some quality alone time.
Inhere’s founders Adiba Osmani and Ghazal Abrishamchi are both big on scientific research, so a LOT of thought has gone into making sure their pods provide the best environment for the ultimate meditative experience. From comfy seats (yep, there’s no need to sit cross-legged on the floor) to audio meditations delivered through headphones, you’ll be able to zone out and get into the right headspace with absolutely no distractions.
If you’re wondering why this place is called Inhere, don’t fall into the trap of thinking it literally means ‘in here’ — it doesn’t. Inhere means ‘to exist within’, which is what mindfulness and meditation are really all about — savouring the now.
In fact, the founders describe their studio as “an invitation to develop a healthy relationship with our minds, a place to experience stillness, find clarity, and return to our centre when the daily demands of life pull us in multiple directions”. Sounds good to us!
Inhere’s new studio won’t be all about meditation, though, so if you’re the kind of person who chats all the way through yoga class, this place is for you, too. The venue will be playing host to a roster of inspirational speakers and meditation experts who will share their knowledge about mindful living.
So when the day to day gets too heavy and you need to take a step back from your stress-filled life, make your way to Inhere. Really, we could all use a little extra time for ourselves, even if it’s just for a moment.
