If you’re looking for epic indoor rock climbing centres in London, we’ve got you covered with the top places to hang out. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned pro, the following places have everything you need for a day of climbing.

Once a Victorian water pumping station, The Castle Climbing Centre in Stoke Newington now houses over 450 top-rope and lead climbing routes. The centre often changes it up with new routes that you can learn about ahead of time on their website. FYI: if you want to lead climb, be sure to bring your own rope.

Grab hold of the chance to try bouldering, top-rope, and lead climbing at Mile End Climbing Wall in East London. With over 16,000 square feet of surface to use, it’s one of the biggest rock climbing centres in London. If you're feeling adventurous, try the ‘Monkey House’ where the routes cross the ceiling!

Looking for a chill activity — literally? Vertical Chill in Central London is one of the most unique centres on this list; instead of rock, you’re climbing ice here. The ice wall ranges in steepness and ends up in an extreme overhang to test your skills. The team at Vertical Chill will get you kitted out with everything you need, but remember to dress warm!

The Arch Climbing Wall has one centre in Edgware and two in Bermondsey, all with endless bouldering route options. With beginner climbing lessons and free Improver Sessions, the centres offer plenty of opportunities to improve your climbing skills. Fitt Tip: if you become a member at one of the locations, you can climb at the other locations as well— all the more reason to join this community!

The Climbing Hangar is just a 30-second walk from Parsons Green Station and has over 100 routes clearly graded for all levels. The centre offers coaching classes and beginner courses that will have you climbing like a pro in no time. The Climbing Hangar is open until 10.30pm on weekdays, so you have plenty of time to climb after work!

One of the newer rock climbing centres to hit London, and Vauxwall is just a minute’s walk from Vauxhall station. Expect to have climbing stripped to its raw essentials, as there’s not a harness or rope in sight — it's just you and the wall. If your bouldering session wasn’t enough of a workout (which we find hard to believe!), make use of conditioning machines and stretching area. And if you find yourself northwest, check out their other location in Harrow!

Westway Sport and Fitness Centre is another popular gym known for bouldering. The walls (inside the Everyone Active gym) reach close to 14 metres, so it’s a good spot for adrenaline junkies. You won’t get bored even if you take to the walls regularly, as they switch up the routes every eight weeks, giving you plenty of time to explore all the new routes. If you’re looking for a gym that has climbing walls as well, this is the ticket!

Can’t rope your friends into coming climbing with you? Clip ’n Climb in Chelsea has you sorted. You don’t need a belayer, you just literally clip… and climb. Its theme park vibe and fun obstacles will have your friends regretting they didn’t join.

The Reach has the largest climbing wall in South East London and has bouldering and harnessed climbing. Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or just up for a bit of fun, there’s a wall for you. It also has auto-belay routes if you’re flying solo.
