Finding a favorite coffee shop is like finding a perfectly ripe avocado. But we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about LA’s best brews.
Get your caffeine fix at the bright and sunny Primo Passo in Santa Monica. There’s no Wi-Fi, so leave your laptop at home (or bring a personal hotspot) and enjoy the minimalist ambiance, along with a hazelnut latte and fresh pastry or vegan treat.
Whether you’re in Santa Monica, Brentwood, the Pacific Palisades, or Malibu, swing by one of Caffe Luxxe’s locations to grab a French press coffee. You can also browse through a unique selection of cards and fun gifts while waiting for your coffee to brew! And their roastery in South Bay, Il Laboratorio, is worth the visit no matter if you want wholesale beans or just free smells.
In the heart of the Venice Boardwalk madness, Menotti’s is local favorite. They’re a small spot with limited seating, but the vinyl records and old-school vibes make even a quick visit feel like a special experience. Fitt Tip: try the Spanish latte made with condensed milk and cinnamon, you won’t be sorry.
Demitasse Coffee Roasters takes their coffee seriously, and it shows. All their coffee instruments and espresso machines are exposed at the barista bar, so you can watch your coffee come to life. Got time kill? Check out the Kyoto Iced Coffee station: iced water drips through coffee one drop at a time (literally). Swing by any one of their three locations for a delicious cup of joe, but go to the Little Tokyo spot for the prettiest patio ever.
Need a pick-me-up? Stop by Go Get Em Tiger for a piping cuppa Cappuccino or Turmeric Almond Macadamia Latte. Their Larchmont or Los Feliz shops will not only grant you caffeine in the form of a delicious, quality cup of coffee (from their parent G&B Coffee), but also a quick bite and all the inspiration you’ll need to crush the day.
Tucked off Venice’s Abbot Kinney Blvd., this spot will do the trick for coffee and matcha-lovers alike. Craving a sweet treat with your matcha latte? Try the Matcha Azuki Parfait. It’s layers of matcha ice cream, raspberries, cornflakes, and topped with whipped cream. And don’t forget to check out the Asian-inspired garden out back full of twinkly lights, comfy couches, and patio tables. This is living.
What do Venice, Silver Lake, and Pasadena have in common? They’re all home to Intelligentsia, one of the hippest coffee bars in the city. Intelligentsia satisfies any caffeine tooth with their Direct Trade coffees and inspires all the creative juices with their beautifully designed spaces. The only bad part: spotting the little red star at the bottom of the ceramic cup during those final sips.
Alfred Coffee is so trendy, their trademark slogan “But first, coffee” is a fashion statement. But, they’re popular for a reason! Whether you want a standard cold brew or an espresso shot in a waffle cone cup, Alfred whips up caffeine in ways you didn’t know you were possible. Fitt Tip: take a trip to Barbie’s dream home at one of the Alfred Tea Rooms in Brentwood or WeHo.
Get your caffeine buzz going with a famed mint mojito iced coffee from one of Philz’s quirky coffee shops sprinkled across LA. Trust us — it’ll give you more than enough energy to stay, sip, and use the Wi-Fi to get work done. And if you get hungry, Philz serves egg and avocado toast and lots of other healthy snacks you won’t feel guilty about indulging in.
Swing by one of Groundwork’s many LA locations to indulge in organic drip coffee or splurge on a Mexican Mocha or vegan Horchata Cold Brew. If you’re hungry, pair your drink with some delicious avocado toast or a fresh lunchtime salad. Groundwork also makes weekly appearances at the Santa Monica Farmers Market so you can stay caffeinated while picking up your local produce!
Are you a coffee addict and a feline fanatic? If so, you’ll be in heaven sipping on a Cat-uccino while playing with furry friends at LA’s trendiest cat cafe. Even better, all of the kitties at Crumbs & Whiskers on Melrose Ave. are rescues and every purchase goes toward helping a shelter cat in need. And if you fall in love at first meow with one of these friendly felines, you might even be able to adopt it. Fitt Tip: if you want to hang with the cats, you’ll have to make a reservation before stopping by.
Cafecito Orgánico sources their brews from local farms and serves them up with a casual-hipster vibe. All of their coffee stops LA have a unique charm, but the Silver Lake spot is home to an outdoor patio made of wilderness, twinkly light dreams. So grab a coffee brewed in-house and stay awhile.
Originally from Santa Cruz, Verve now boasts three Los Angeles locations for you to stop by and try their signature drinks. The chic and casual vibe also makes them a spot where you can just as easily plug in as you can unplug while enjoying a delicious prosciutto biscuit or something thirst-quenching from their partner Juice Served Here. Fitt Tip: a juice flight scores you 10 different kinds of juice!
Looking for a coffee shop that doubles as a place to plop your laptop for hours on end? Meet your new home away from home: Copa Vida. Homey touches like exposed brick, comfy chairs, and big tables make Copa Vida the ultimate cozy spot in Old Town Pasadena, Glendora, and East Village. While the Iced Shakerato and Iced Freddo are menu favorites, the iced teas on tap are not to be overlooked. Note: they offer free Wi-Fi except on weekends from 9am-3pm.
When this Melbourne-inspired cafe planted their Aussie roots in Los Angeles they became an instant hit. Not only is the interior straight out of an Anthropologie catalog, the drinks are just as dreamy. Try the signature flat white, it’s less milky than a latte but gentler than a straight espresso. Hungry? The Venice location offers an all-day menu, including dinner entrées like grilled salmon and halibut tacos. You can also find their coffee shops in Studio City and La Brea.
