There’s no doubt about it — LA has its fair share of plant-based cafés and restaurants. Places like Café Gratitude and Plant Food + Wine, which share the airy outdoor-indoor aesthetic, and where alcoholic beverages (namely beer) are secondary.
Though, if you’re looking for somewhere that truly changes the game, look no further: meet The Dankness Dojo, a DTLA spot serving up boundary-pushing plant-based cuisine along with over 30 taps from their R&D brewing facility.
And don’t worry — The Dankness Dojo challenges the vibe of every other veg-forward restaurant in this city.
An extension of the San Diego-based brewery and coffee experience Modern Times, The Dankness Dojo boasts not only a brewpub, but also full kitchen and café up front. The café serves pastries and Modern Times-branded coffee, while the brewery offers a wide selection of Modern Times beers (the Hazy IPA is a fave).
And if you’re not already planning your next visit, you also have the restaurant to look forward to. The restaurant’s full-vegan menu features dishes with names just as exciting as their beers — like the Marrow Of The Earth, a play on bone marrow toast where mushroom and parsnip are the stars. You can also get your burger or taco fix — the menu has something for everyone.
Beer and vegan bar grub aren’t the only things done differently at The Dankness Dojo — they’ve filled the historic space with wall-to-wall art installations, and the combination of art selection and brick walls give the space a very retro vibe. From the comic book wallpaper in the bathroom to the neon pink sign, the space is 100% Instagrammable.
Whether or not you’re plant-based, The Dankness Dojo is the perfect spot to grab a coffee, beer, or plant-based meal. Stop in to the 832 S Olive Street dojo, 7am–midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 7am-2am Friday and Saturday. Cheers!
