If you’re a fast food-lover but you’re also trying to eat less meat, or if you’re a drive-thru-loving vegan, then we’ve got great news for you: fan favorite Mexican-American restaurant chain Del Taco is now serving plant-based options among their tacos, burritos, burgers, and fries at a select few LA locations, SaMo and Culver City. West LA just took vegan-friendly to the next level.
It’s beyond meat
Del Taco has partnered with the plant-based meat substitute producer Beyond Meat to open the drive-thru and quick-service world to vegans and meat-eaters alike.
If you aren’t already familiar with their products, Beyond Meat is a gluten-free, soy-free, plant-based protein made with potatoes and spices. Their products are designed to cook, look, and, most importantly, taste like ground beef — the Beyond Burger, made with their plant protein, is infamous for bleeding like red meat.
The concept came about as a replacement for animal protein. It’s designed to be a good-for-you and good-for-the-planet option. It has half the fat of its counterpart, no cholesterol, and no antibiotics, plus a whopping 13 grams of protein per serving. It’s also cruelty-free by nature, and is less environmentally harmful to produce.
It’s especially great for flexitarians or even carnivores who want to cut back on animal protein or include more plants into their diets. Due to Beyond Meat’s likeness to real meat, you can sub your ground beef for Beyond Meat when you feel like sneaking more plants in without sacrificing flavor or experience.
Something to taco ’bout
Aside from the health-related benefits, this union is something to celebrate because people who have chosen to give up eating meat no longer have to give up eating Del Taco. Get your Beyond Meat in a regular taco, sprinkle it in with an avocado taco, or swap the animal protein in any menu item for it. Pretty much the whole menu is vegan-friendly because of this historic partnership, and that’s something to taco ’bout.
So, run, don’t walk, to the Santa Monica and Culver City Del Tacos to try out the Beyond Meat menu. It’s 100% #freshasdel.
