Living the paleo (or keto) lifestyle doesn’t mean you’ve got to survive on eggs, grilled chicken, and spinach for the rest of your life. In fact, Miami’s actually got a handful of restaurants with dedicated paleo menus packed with flavorful protein mash-ups and bright and colorful veggie medleys.

While it’s easy to dine at just about any restaurant and request a serving of meat and plain greens, these restaurants know just the right ways to spice up your paleo meal.

Searching for a paleo-friendly lunch spot in downtown? Enter: Jar + Fork, one of the most inclusive restaurants in the city. There’s a menu just for paleo-eaters, with the option of one protein and two veggie sides for less than $20. Highlights include lemon miso-glazed salmon, chicken breast in a roasted bell pepper sauce, and flank steak with chimichurri. And you can’t go wrong with sides like the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower stir-fry, sautéed garlic spinach, and sweet chili green beans. Paleo or not, we’d have no problem eating every single meal here.

There's a reason this locale is a Miami staple. Off the Grille in Kendall serves healthy meals to customers of all kinds, including vegan, gluten-free, and paleo. The focus here is on crafting simple meals made with clean ingredients. But make no mistake — that doesn’t mean boring. Off the Grille slings delightfully delicious dishes like Mediterranean chicken, beef ropa vieja, and turkey picadillo, with sweet potato mash and mixed vegetables.

Searching for a paleo-Cuban fusion? Head to downtown’s Atlantis Cafe for breakfast or lunch. Order the Chicken Vaca Frita, which includes a hearty portion of shredded chicken breast with grilled onions. There’s also a ton of grilled seafood, from shrimp and salmon to mahi-mahi and tilapia. Just make sure to swing by for breakfast and get yourself a massive vegetable omelet, made with egg whites and seasonal veggies. Fitt Tip: if you don’t have time to dine in, ask about Atlantis Cafe’s paleo meal delivery service.

We can’t get enough of GreenLife Organic Bistro’s build-your-own protein bowls. They're perfect for a paleo palate. Top a base of lettuce with your choice of protein (mojo chicken breast, albacore tuna, smoked salmon), and four different veggies (pickled onions, shaved carrots, tomato, olives). With locations in Brickell and Coral Gables, it’s a great spot for lunch, especially if you’re out to get the most bang for your buck.

Created by owner Shannon Allen and her husband, two-time NBA champion Ray Allen, Grown is a great example of a hometown spot doing paleo right. Set up in South Miami, this is the place you’ll want to split a house-made rotisserie chicken with a few friends. Dive into Mexican corn, green beans with caramelized onions, sautéed broccoli, and roasted sweet mashed potatoes. No matter what you order, it’ll be made with organic, local, and sustainable ingredients free of GMOs, preservatives, hormones, or processed sugar.

Purple Orchid is a Brazilian-inspired juice bar with a killer lineup of paleo-friendly salads. We’re talking make-your-own mixes with avocado, cucumber, bell peppers, and caramelized onions, turkey, roast beef, and basil pesto. And when your sweet tooth is bothering you, they’ve got you covered with their paleo alfajores (a traditional Argentine cookie).

Green Gables Café, nestled in one of our favorite neighborhoods (read: Coral Gables), is another restaurant that uses easy-to-identify symbols to help diners navigate paleo-friendly items. They partner with area artisans and sustainable farmers to ensure every ingredient on your plate is organic and the proteins you’re eating come from animals that are hormone- and antibiotic-free, pastured, grass-fed. So indulge in the breakfast turkey patty, served with baked sweet potato fries and fried eggs, or the carrot ginger or butternut squash soup — this is guilt-free dining at its finest.
