IMAGE VIA OLA KAYAL
Ten years ago, vegans were (extremely) rare and tourists hadn’t yet stepped foot in Wynwood. Today, the vibrant art district—bustling even on a regular Tuesday night—welcomes hundreds of visitors per day; and terms like vegan and vegetarian are part of our daily vocabulary.
So, it only makes sense that the newest shop to join the neighborhood caters to the meat-free crowds. Introducing Nabati, a dairy-free ice cream shop with an innovative and fresh approach to plant-based frozen goodness — and the first of its kind in Miami.
Miami’s first and only vegan ice cream shop isn’t trying to be anything it’s not. That’s exactly why you won’t hear chef and owner Ola Kayal comparing Nabati’s scoops to its sweet, sugary, and dairy-filled counterpart. She opened the charming, all-vegan dessert shop with a simple goal in mind: to bring something unique to the community and to serve up plant-based ice cream guaranteed to please. It’s safe to say, she’s doing just that!
Using a base of coconut and cashews, Ola blends together healthy ingredients (read: all-natural, refined sugar-, gluten-, and soy-free) to create creamy scoops that are sweetened only with dates and maple syrup.
The shop’s unique flavors range from fruity delights like Raspberry & Thyme, Tropically Mango, and Salted Banana Pecan to more classic options like Vanilla Cookie Dough, Smooth Peanut Butter and Dark Coffee. And, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can try innovations like Cup of Earl Grey, Pumpkin Seed Butter, and Sesame Is Black. Not sure what flavor to choose? Sounds like a good excuse to come back and try them all!
It’s not all about ice cream here, though. You can also choose from a menu of indulgent sweet treats like milkshakes, smoothies, b’olas, and a selection of baked goods that are completely guilt-free. Oh, and did we mention they also serve coffee, CBD-infused water, and kombucha on-tap?
Step inside Nabati and you’ll find cleverly-designed signs educating customers about what Nabati means (plant-based in Arabic), prints from local artists decorating the walls, t-shirts from local vegan clothing company Vegan Babe, and communal risers for seating.
And if you’re looking for a printed menu, don’t expect to find one. Not only is the Nabati entirely plant-based, but the entire establishment is plastic-free and uses only the most necessary paper products (all bio-degradable, btw).
As if providing delicious, better-for-you ice cream and committing to eco-friendly stardards wasn’t enough, Nabati also hopes to be a creative hub in the community and a place where like-minded people can come together to enjoy ice cream, music, or their latest pop-up (they’ve hosted a Pilathon Pilates workout in the past!).
So be sure to follow them on Instagram for news on upcoming events. In the meantime, head to Wynwood for tasty, plant-based ice cream you won’t find anywhere else in Miami.
