When it comes to boutique fitness studios and high-end gyms, Nashville's got options. From Orangetheory Fitness to CYCLEBAR, and more, there are plenty of different ways to work up a sweat — you could say we’re pretty lucky.
But, if we’re being honest, there’s been something missing from our fitness scene: indoor rowing. Well, get excited, gang because dedicated rowing studio Row House has arrived in Nashville, and they’re making their debut with two locations across the area.
It all started back in 2014, when husband-and-wife duo Eric Von Frohlich and Debra Strougo opened their first Row House location in NYC. They created the concept with the aim of offering a high-intensity, low-impact workout that people of all fitness levels and abilities could get in on. Fast forward to 2019, and the franchise has over 300 locations in the works across the US and Canada. Now, it’s Nashville's turn.
While you may think of the erg (read: rowing machine) as just another dusty machine tucked in the back of the gym, it deserves a lot more credit. And at Row House, it’s finally getting the spotlight.
During each class, you’ll sweat it out for a heart-pumping 45 minutes. If that seems like an eternity to you, no worries ― between the jammin’ playlists, low lights, and upbeat, community atmosphere, you’ll be off the rower and exchanging high-fives with your neighbor before you know it. And with six classes to choose from, there’s plenty of opportunity to switch things up.
If your goal is to get in the zone and row it out, go for their cardio-heavy Full Row workout. If you’re a die-hard HIIT fan, trying out their House class should fit the bill. For a good, old- fashioned strength and conditioning workout, their Power or Body classes have you covered. Still sore from yesterday’s muscle-burning session? Give their lower-intensity Restore class a shot. And if you’re still getting the hang of things, Stroke will help nail down your form and technique.
Good news — both the Cool Springs and Sylvan Park locations are arriving soon. So, book a class, grab your water bottle (you’re going to need it), and get ready for a full-body workout you won’t find anywhere else in Nashville. And who knows, after a few classes, you might just be ready to take things to the Cumberland.
