If the idea of giving up meat and dairy completely terrifies you, consider this just one more reason to check out Beetle House, New York City’s Tim Burton-themed restaurant: The unconventional eatery has just veganized 50%  of its menu!

Contrary to its tagline, ‘Every day is Halloween,’ the creepy destination has never served candy straight up, for free. But with a newly-minted menu, customers who want to have their vegan cake and eat it, too will find less ‘plain salads’ and more inspirational, plant-based meal options to choose from.

NEW MENU, SAME FREAKY AESTHETIC

Though the hot spot inspired by films created by director Tim Burton (think Sweeney Todd, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland) has been haunting the East Village since 2016, the updated menu brings a new level of bizarre to the scene.

Patrons can choose from plates like Edward Vegan Hands, a vegan burger featuring dairy-free cheddar, avocado, bacon, roasted red pepper, tomato, lettuce, sriracha aioli, (no actual human flesh included), and the Sweeney Todd-inspired To Thai For, a vegan pad Thai.

For those who aren’t sure they want to quit meat-eating cold turkey (because here, carnage just seems right), sides like the Poisonous Mushroom Fries—topped with vegan ‘pulled pork’ made from mushrooms—provide a taste of what the world outside of cannibalism has to offer.

GO (DARK) GREEN

If you love Beetle House as is, don’t spook: The restaurant and bar will continue catering to all who love Halloween, horror films, gothic dark music — and now, plants!

And while we’re literally dying to try the Sweeney Shroom (a portobello mushroom-based burger), perhaps the best part of this revamp is that now, dark souls with specific eating preferences will finally have the perfect place to meet their future Bumble matches.
