Pitbull featuring Tony Robbins — is this summer’s hottest track? No. Instead, the entertainer known as “Mr. Worldwide”, author and life coach Tony Robbins, and The Learning Annex founder Bill Zanker are funding a joint venture, which could become NYC’s hottest studio.
GRIT BXNG, a boutique boxing and running concept, is joining the scene in August 2019, moving into a 5,000-square-foot space in the Flatiron District.
Fitness boxing and treadmill studios might just be New York’s two biggest fitness trends right now. With the likes of Rumble, Box + Flow, Shadowbox, Barry’s Bootcamp, and Mile High Run Club already capturing the fast-beating hearts of Manhattanites and beyond, a mash-up concept that brings the two workouts together under one roof makes sense.
The star-studded ownership has it all figured out, too. The 50-minute HIIT classes will have a technique-focused boxing component on joint-friendly, water-filled punching bags, during which time massive screens will run motivational content from Tony Robbins. Meanwhile, Pitbull—full name Armando Pérez—will curate the playlists that will blast from the top-notch sound system. “The Anthem”? “Timber”? “Don’t Stop The Party?” Whatever helps you find your stride on the studio’s state-of-the-art treadmills — the second, cardio-intensive part of the class.
And bringing what we’re assuming is a nod to Pitbull’s hit “Fireball”, we’ve been told the studio will have a full liquor bar. So, we’d imagine happy hour classes will be thrown into the mix at some point.
If only they landed a studio on 8th St. (“calle ocho”)... but the 9 East 16th St. location will surely provide a world-class experience.
At the helm will be Bill Zanker and veterans of The Learning Annex team, who popularized the “how to” video before YouTube was invented. The concept, the hype, the motivation, it’s all in the works. And in particular, they’re investing heavily in the talent, reportedly offering top trainers $1,000 per hour (not a typo). The class price tag? To be determined.
However, with the man who taught you how to succeed and the man who taught you how to throw caution to the wind during college night at the club serving in advisory roles, the workout may pay for itself.
