It doesn’t get much better than spring in Philly. The cherry blossoms are blooming, Spruce Street Harbor Park is bustling, and we’re getting outside every chance we get.
And if you want to get the full experience, there’s only one way to do it: by lacing up for the premier running event of the season — the Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon.
For the seventh year in a row, the City of Brotherly Love is rolling out the red carpet on March 29 for what has become known as the unofficial kickoff to spring. Though, the Love Run isn’t just a local fling — the fun and fast course attracts over 11,000 runners from around the country each year who love an early-season PR.
It’s easy to see why. This is your chance to sweat it out in Philly’s biggest half-marathon, while taking a tour of the city’s most popular sights and historical landmarks while you’re at it. The race starts and ends in front of the iconic Philadelphia Art Museum and in between, you’re in for a real treat. You’ll pound the pavement through the city streets past the LOVE sculpture (naturally), City Hall, the Liberty Bell, and more before hitting your stride along Benjamin Franklin Parkway, where a high-energy crowd filled with your friends and family will be waiting to cheer you on.
From there, you’re in for a scenic, beautiful run through Fairmount Park, and an unforgettable finish in front of the iconic Rocky steps, where you’ll wrap up your 13.1-mile feat feeling like a true champ.
After that, all you have to do is sit back at the post-race festival and enjoy some solid tailgating with a soft pretzel in one hand and a cold pint in the other — every runner (21 or older) is rewarded with a free beer, plus a long-sleeve premium tech shirt, an awesome finish medal, and a commemorative glass coffee mug. And trust us, this Love Run gear will not disappoint — there’s a reason they’ve won the best swag award the last five years.
The half-marathon might be a one-day event, but the whole experience is a weekend-long affair, complete with an epic party that spans Friday and Saturday.
Featuring live music, games, photo booths, interactive zones, not to mention some pretty sweet swag, it’s the perfect way to get you in the right mindset for Sunday.
And if you’re not ready to take on the half-marathon, that’s cool. You can run a third of the distance with all the same fun by signing up for the 7.6k route, which features all the same quintessential Philly landmarks.
Either way, you’ll want to sign up now — Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon has sold out the past six years in a row. See you at the starting line!
