Did you hear the news, Philly? Our city was officially ranked as one of the best cities for coffee! And while we might have a Wawa on every street corner, we know how to bring the heat when it comes to artisanal and specialty coffee, too.
When you need a java pick-me-up, head over to one of these amazing shops and you’ll be buzzing like a Gilmore in no time!
This shop might seem small but it is one of the most beautiful coffee shops we’ve ever seen, thanks to its exposed brick. Head over to Old City to try the on-trend turmeric cortado (oh you fancy, huh), or for our fellow iced coffee fanatics, a delicious cold brew.
Old City Coffee
The one tough point with artisanal coffee shops is that the prices can start to burn a hole in your wallet. Thankfully, Old City Coffee gives you fantastic brews at a fantastic price. But hey, if you want to spend a little more, go for the awesome coffee ice cream shake. The interiors here are inviting, but there’s a wide-open green space right next door if you want to admire adorable dogs (and by that, we mean creep on).
We can’t make a list of coffee shops without including La Colombe. Head over to the main Fishtown location for inspiring wall art, a famous draft latte, and a delicious scone. Did we mention it’s so popular that they’ve begun a national expansion? Philly represent!
These coffee roasters used to be Fishtown’s best-kept secret. But now, everyone keeps yammering about how great they are, and their cover is blown! It’s all good though because all of Philly deserves to know about the amazing lattes here. Take your java to go and sit outside in the nearby park.
You’ll think you stumbled into a dream world when you walk into Peddler Coffee in Logan Square. It’s the perfect location for that pre-Trader Joe’s caffeine pit stop. You’ll need your strength to hold all that cauliflower rice. Go for the almond milk latte or a cold brew, and you’ll be an instant fan.
Elixr Coffee Roasters
Elixir’s Center City outpost is the perfect place to get work done (or pretend to get work done, but really people watch all day!). For all the syrup fans out there, you can flavor your coffee with chocolate pistachio, maple walnut, and blueberry coconut syrups. Did we mention they also have vegan donuts? If we pay rent, will they let us live here?
One Shot Coffee
When we’re in Northern Liberties, this is where we go. The delicious vegan brunch items, the adorable weekly drink specials board (if you’ve been, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about), and, of course, the upstairs library. So much yes.
This place is so gorgeous, we could scream. But we won’t because then they’ll kick us out. Here’s what you gotta know about this Queen Village must-see: There’s a secret garden in the back (you didn’t hear it from us), cozy décor, and a record player spinning all your favorite jams. Two words: Go there.
The Monkey and the Elephant
Everyone knows Brewerytown is for latte lovers. Or at least, you know now. This adorable coffee house will wow you with its patio, mural art, pour over coffee, and so much more. The best part? It’s a nonprofit helping to give job opportunities to foster youth. Sign us up as loyal customers!
Square One Coffee
This specialty coffee roaster is originally from Lancaster, but lucky for us, they’ve got a new space in Center City. The atmosphere makes it easy to cozy up with a good book and a delicious cappuccino. And, if you start to get hungry, you can build your own bagel sandwich. Give us all the avocado, please!
We’ve often wondered when coffee shops and bars would merge into one amazing storefront. Thanks to Ultimo, the dream is alive in South Philly. With 10 beers on draft and a cappuccino that could wake even Sleeping Beauty, it’s a one-stop shop for everyone.
The Swedish have given us gummy fish, meatballs, and Ikea, but turns out their best gift of all was this adorable espresso bar in the heart of Rittenhouse. Whether you need a wake-up call (try the cortado) or some pastry perfection (chocolate-almond croissant, anyone?), Konditori’s got your cozy coffee cravings covered.
Rival Brothers Coffee
This small batch coffee roaster in Fitler Square has everything you need to start your mornings. Order a ricotta cheese toast and a nitro cold brew, or just go straight for the Weckerly’s ice cream sandwich (no judgment here).
This Fishtown shop has it all: Giant cups for those sleepy days, delicious food specials, and, oh yeah, a record store! Where else can you buy a limited release Iron Maiden LP and sip on an amazing iced mocha. Fitt Tip: Order the Notorious E.G.G. sandwich—it’s life-changing.
Chapterhouse Café & Gallery
Coffee is basically an art form (have you seen all those latte art Instagrams?). So, it makes sense that this Bella Vista café combined a fair trade coffee shop with an art gallery. Aside from that, we’ve got two more words for you: Nutella latte. You’re welcome.
W/N W/N Coffee Bar
Remember the last time you crammed for your biology exam in a coffee shop? The baristas kicked you out at 8pm because it was closing time, and your exam didn’t go so well. Thanks to this Spring Garden coffee bar, you can study until midnight during the week, and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Or, you know (for those that didn’t procrastinate), just drink good coffee.
