You may hear locals brag about the weather (it’s hot), but the true bragging rights belong to our city’s locally-brewed coffee shops (also hot). They’re our go-to for the day’s caffeine fix and even a snack. So if you want to enjoy a true taste of Phoenix, check out what these coffee shops are brewing, pouring, baking, and even what’s on tap!

For a true taste of Arizona stop by Songbird Coffee & Tea House — they keep things close to home. Case in point: their coffee beans and tea are all sourced locally and even their vegan pastries are delivered from the ladies at Treehouse Bakery right down the road. Try some local favorites (like the nitro cold brew or the espresso spritzer with agave and sparkling water) and enjoy the views of the historic neighborhood in Downtown Phoenix. Or, just kick back with friends and listen to live music. That works, too.

No matter where you live in the valley, there’s likely a Cartel Coffee Lab with fantastic aromas, delicate espresso, and a cool ambiance nearby. Whether you’re by the University, in Downtown Phoenix, or Old Town Scottsdale, stop in and ask for the iced toddy —it’s created with beans that are soaked overnight for a less acidic and refreshing glass of cold brew.

It’s always a packed house at Lux Central, and for good reason. This Central Phoenix coffee shop serves up a smooth espresso that will make you want to sit back and enjoy the hip vibes. And their pastries are unique and sinfully addicting — we recommend the mixed berry corn muffin or the salted chocolate chip and pistachio cookie. The menu changes daily, as entrées are made on the spot, so there’s always something new to try. And in the evening, Lux serves up made-to-order cocktails, making it a great hangout spot after work.

An escape from the busy downtown scene outside, the mellow atmosphere at Lola Coffee on N. 3rd Ave. is perfect for savoring their espresso-infused whipped cream, house-roasted beans, and satisfying scones. Their kitchen may be small, but it sure packs a delicious punch! Build your own omelet or breakfast sandwich, kick up your feet, and take in the city rushing past as you sip on their latest coffee creation.

Home of the Honey Vanilla Latte, Giant Coffee in Central Phoenix gives the everyday commuter a reason to wake up in the morning! Baristas use a cocktail shaker to fully mix your coffee concoctions, so there’s no syrupy mess, only sweet and smooth espresso heaven. Their rustic tables and large windows complete the lounge-like atmosphere (don’t be surprised if you’re tempted to skip that AM work meeting and stay awhile). Order the breakfast burrito, and you’ve got the perfect way to start your day.

Rustic meets retro at Sip Coffee & Beer. This cozy neighborhood coffee spot serves—you guessed it—coffee and alcohol in three rockin’ neighborhoods: Old Town, Arcadia, and North Scottsdale. Get your java infused with liquor by ordering off the specialty craft cocktail menu (try the Espresso Martini or warm up with the Hot Tipsy Toddy). Prefer your caffeine fix on the virgin side? Don’t worry — their baristas still serve up all your cafe favorites. But be sure to swing by after work to sample the dozens of craft beers on tap from local breweries.

This is coffee with a cause. At The Refuge in the Central Phoenix Melrose District, proceeds fund much-needed non-profit services in the community. Among the must-tries is their Lavender Espresso, Cayenne Mocha, and the Haboob (white chocolate mocha with a solid chunk of dark chocolate and whipped cream). Oh, and The Refuge is a quaint neighborhood cafe by day, and wine bar by night. So, grab an afternoon pick-me-up and stick around for happy hour and tapas plates with friends.

If you’re looking to catch up with a friend over a thoughtfully-crafted cup of coffee in Scottsdale, go to Echo Coffee. They roast their own beans, so the aroma is intoxicating and the atmosphere super-friendly. Order up a drip coffee and a treat (the soft and decadent breakfast loaves like their Blueberry Zucchini are a must) and stay for a few.

Whether you’re jonesing for some java at midnight or want an evening nightcap, Urban Beans has you covered round-the-clock. This 24-hour, 100% plant-based bakery and bar is known for their quiet atmosphere, tasty baked goods, artistically-crafted lattes, and a mean cocktail. Make your way to their N. 7th St. shop and lose track of the time.

Press Coffee

Coffee Shop

With 10 locations in and around the city, it’s no surprise that Press Coffee is consistently rated Best Coffee Roaster in Phoenix. This local cafe not only serves up liquid energy to Scottsdale shoppers in the North Valley they also fuel up the weary traveler at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. Oh, and they also enjoy educating! Attend a cupping (coffee tasting) or roastery tour to expand your coffee horizons.

Jobot Coffee & Bar on 4th St. and Roosevelt has it all: an espresso that’ll give you a jolt, killer drink specials, and live music from local artists. But it’s their Beats & Brunch that puts the FUN in Sunday Funday. From 11am-3pm, they serve up everything from Cartel coffee and awesome tunes to cheap mimosas and Belgium waffles dripping with sticky goodness! If you need us, you know where we’ll be.

What began as a coffee service on Sundays has turned into a full-blown cafe open 7 days a week. This Arcadia coffee bar is all about connecting with the community via their quality cups of carefully-crafted brews. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that all of their beans are responsibly sourced But Provision doesn’t just serve fine-roasted coffee, they’ve also got a menu full of cocktails, beer, and boutique wines. We’ll drink to that!

The coffee bar inside this popular Phoenix restaurant is guaranteed to give you the fuel you need to get down to business. As the go-to spot for caffeine addicts armed with laptops, it’s no wonder The Henry Coffee Bar offers an extra professional menu of espresso, smoothies, and XV coffee. The Wildflower with vanilla, espresso, steamed milk, and splash of chai is wildly perfect. But if you’re cutting back on the coffee, the Good Morning Sunshine smoothie with mandarin, strawberries, pineapple, maca, flaxseed, plant protein, banana, and coconut milk will brighten up your day.

Maverick is more than coffee. It’s a great place to sit and stay awhile in Scottsdale. And with Bullet Proof Coffee on the menu, you’ll be ready to stay up all night! For something unique, try the Matcha Almond Latte. For something flavorful, opt for their Pumpkin Spice Latte. And for something that packs a punch, you can’t go wrong with The Bro Shake with espresso, banana, protein powder, chia seeds, and peanut butter. Yep, Maverick Coffee has all your bases covered.
