Let’s face it — running for miles on end can be challenging and downright boring. But know that thousands of Phoenix runners are sweating through the miles too. And somehow, running them together makes it that much easier.
So why not join a run club (or a couple) to make your run more enjoyable? Chances are, with the plethora of running groups to choose from, you’ll find yourself some new running friends—and, coincidentally, drinking buddies!
Ragnar Trail Mcdowell Mountain | Facebook
If FAST is your goal, Phoenix Free Soles have some of the swiftest feet in Phoenix! Those guys you see on the podium at races—they’re probably a Phoenix Free Soles member. Yes, their finish times may be serious, but they know how to laugh, and everyone is welcome to join. Work on those fast-twitch muscles with Phoenix Free Soles at the Scottsdale Community College track on Wednesdays at 5am. Or join them for a long run at 630am starting at Sole Sports Scottsdale.
Aravaipa Running | Facebook
Whether you’re a trail running noob or a backwoods veteran, the Aravaipa Running group is where the off-road party is at (quite literally)! After the Wednesday night trail run, the Aravaipa crew heads to a nearby brewery for grub and suds. The runs start at 630pm and are so large, you will have no problem finding someone at your pace. FYI: The locations of the run and post-run social vary, so be sure to follow their Facebook page to stay in the know.
Sole Sports Running Zone | Facebook
5k runs with inflatable slides, pub runs, and even post-race cookie bake-offs — Sole Sports Running Zone knows how to spice up a run! Not sure which shoe is the right fit for you? Weekly shoe demos will help there. Sole Sports hosts several group runs at their three Valley locations, so there’s running fun to be had nearby, no matter where you live! Check the Sole Sports Facebook page often for their free weekly running events.
Meet Me Downtown Phoenix | Facebook
When you want to quickly swap your office clothes for running gear, head over to CityScape for a quick run with the Meet Me Downtown group. If you ask us, an easy three to five-mile run every Monday at 630pm is a great way to sweat out the beginning-of-the-week blues.
Runners Den Phoenix | Facebook
The folks at Runner’s Den not only fit feet in shoes and organize yearly races us locals love (like the sticky sweet Pancake Run), but they also are the go-to source for training! Runner’s Den hosts large training groups for everyone from the 10k beginner to the marathon runner looking for a PR. You’ll have to shell out some cash to participate, but it comes with a free entry into a local race, VIP Race perks, $100 store credit (hello new shoes!), a year round store discount, and discounted entries into future races. If you’re more of the casual runner, their free group runs are a great way to mix up the road and trails each week.
Hash House Harriers | Facebook
The guys and gals at Phoenix Hash House Harriers put the RUN in DRUNK! They are a loosely organized group of drinkers with a running problem and welcome anyone (over 21, of course). Funny name, huh? Nah, heritage. It’s the age-old tradition of running + scavenger hunt + beer. Just check out their calendar for a date that suits you and get ready to drink and run…or “hash”. Your first one is free!
The Westin Phoenix Downtown | Facebook
Maybe you’re just staying in Phoenix and want to get a quick run in to explore the city. RunWestin offers guided group runs for guests of the hotel every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Forgot a crucial piece of running gear? No problem! Their New Balance Lending Program is perfect for the absent-minded traveler.
Moms RUN This Town / She Runs This Town | Facebook
That’s right — Phoenix even has running groups just for moms! All moms, all ages, all strollers are welcome at Moms Run This Town. There are several chapters across the Valley, so no matter where you live, there’s some active mamas near you.
Phoenix 10K & Half Marathon | Facebook
Whether you’re training for a 5k or an ultra-marathon, East Valley Runners are dedicated to adding some variety to your weekly routine. This Phoenix group has been around since 1980, and its members are actively involved in every endurance activity you can imagine — running (of course), cycling, triathlons, even adventure racing. Their extensive knowledge is available to anyone who seeks it, and they welcome all abilities to join their group runs on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

If you’re a beer-lover with a love for the chase, Running for Brews is the group for you. Probably the most chill runners in Phoenix, Running for Brews meets at a local pub (venues vary) every Tuesday night for an easy 5k and replenishes the burned calories with some local hops! Follow their Facebook Page for upcoming events.
Landis Triathlon Club | Facebook
Wanting to get off your feet and into the saddle (or maybe the water)? New triathletes from across the Valley have gotten their feet wet (see what we did there?) with the Landis Tri Club. From track workouts to cycling classes, Landis Tri Club prepares members for their first triathlon, or for a new PR! Not sure if you want to commit? Just drop in for a workout and get to work!
