Tocaya Organica, a SoCal-based, eatery has opened its first restaurant outside of California — and it happens to be in our very own Kierland Commons.
This organic Mexican cafe stays true to its intention to inspire better eating with a menu packed with delicious food that’s both delicious and good for you.
The elevated fast-casual joint has all the expected offerings: salads, bowls, tacos, burritos. The contents, however, are anything but ordinary. Think ingredients like jalapeño cabbage, cilantro-curry salsa, roasted cauliflower, sautéed mushrooms, and more. Even better — the chef-driven, vegan-first menu accommodates a variety of eating preferences, offering plant-based and gluten-free options (hello vegan cheese). But meat-eaters, fear not! There are plenty of animal-based proteins for you to choose from, like grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, and sustainably-sourced fish that’s always fresh.
When you’re in the mood to indulge a little (hey, you deserve it!), you’ll definitely want to try Tocaya’s signature vegan Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich, featuring LA-based Craig’s plant-based vanilla ice cream nestled between two churro waffles and drizzled in chocolate sauce.
You’ll need something to wash all these delicious eats down, right? Well, look no further than Tocaya’s signature margaritas that incorporate local ingredients and natural sugars in a “farm-to-glass” approach. But if alcohol isn’t your thing, they also have a selection of coffee, tea, and juice. Fitt Tip: you can take advantage of happy hour between 3-6pm daily and all day long on Taco Tuesdays (when you can also catch $2 tacos).
With modern, airy decor, vibrant mosaic tiles, and open floor plan, we don’t blame you if you want to eat here for every meal. And if you’ve somehow held yourself back from snapping photos of the floor to ceiling window of potted plants or the “KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE, and your Tacos closer” wall — don’t! They encourage you to share your pics on Instagram and even offer a chance to win a $50 gift card if they repost.
Scottsdale is just the start of Tocaya Organica’s expansion into AZ. They’ve got more spots planned in Tempe and Phoenix. But for now, we’ll be snacking on vegan queso and sippin’ farm-fresh margs at the Kierland Commons.
