Check your watches, yinzers! It’s nearly time for a new high-intensity workout to pop up in Pittsburgh. No treadmills, no mirrors, no egos — just sweat. Say hello to F45.
You may need to break out your sweatbands for this one. Australian-born F45 is preparing to get muscles burning in the Steel City with their one-of-a-kind group training class.
Here’s how it works: the “F” in F45 stands for “functional training” and 45 refers to how long you’ll be working out. But if that all sounds a bit daunting — don’t panic. What functional fitness really means is you’ll be building lean muscle by lifting, squatting, jumping, twisting, pulling, punching, and kicking your way through your sweat sesh.
If you think you’ll be mentally checking out and going through the motions at F45 — think again. Each day of the week features a different 45-minute workout and their stacked schedule means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch a class throughout the day. So, whether you’re an early riser or prefer a lunchtime sweat session, squeezing in a workout has never been easier.
The best part? F45’s programs are created from a database of more than 3,000 different exercises, so you’ll never experience the same workout twice. Oh, and you won’t have to worry “am I doing this right”? During class, two trainers will guide you through the moves at each station, and mounted TVs will display a visual demonstration of each exercise. Aka F45 has your back.
F45 made their debut in Australia in 2012 thanks to owner Rob Deutsch. And in just a few years, the workout concept expanded into a fitness powerhouse with more than 1,000 locations around the world.
Luckily for us, Pittsburgh native and fitness instructor Kathryn King has decided to open a studio in the city after working as a coach for F45 in DC. And she just announced she’ll be setting up shop on Penn Ave. in the Strip District, so you can look for F45 to make its home here this winter.
