So we’re sharpening our skills, refining our palate, and binging Chopped indefinitely. When you're ready to join us, fire up the oven, the kitchen is calling.

COOKING CLASSES

For the kitchen novice, check out easy meal ideas from dietitian nutritionist May Zhu of Nutrition Happens, or try Basics with Babish on YouTube.

Ever had a vegan eggs benny or plant-based sushi? JUST’s Insta is packed with video tutorials. But if you’re serious about taking your culinary game to the next level, take some online coursework from chef Matthew Kenney’s Food Future Institute or tune in with José Andrés.

Must try:Sloppy Joe Exotics” from Queer Eye chef Antoni Porowski, who’s well on his way to 20 episodes of Instagram cooking classes. And be on the lookout for Amy Schumer Learns to Cook, a self-shot show coming to Food Network in the next few weeks that’s sure to be hilarious.

GO-TO RECIPES

We’ve stocked up on all the essential cooking tools and appliances, and we’re ready to flex our skills in the kitchen.

Two quick hacks: 1. Waffle makers are for more than just, well… waffles. 2. Whole Foods says you can pesto anything.

For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with homemade granola and these Four Sigmatic plant-based protein pancakes. Pair with a super-easy cold brew, or what the hell: this cold brew martini. If you’re struggling, Intelligentsia Coffee has a coffee hotline.

Basic banana bread is so last week. Instead, whip up this vegan, matcha-infused version from plant-based chef Chloe Coscarelli. Or, switch it up with this healthyish edible brownie batter recipe featuring Hu Kitchen’s organic, paleo crunchy mint chocolate.

CSA boxes have never been more popular, so if you need something to do with all those rainbow carrots and bunches of kale, LA Times food columnist Ben Mims has some ideas.

Clean eating got a glow-up from the founders of wellness company Sakara Life with Eat Clean, Play Dirty. And you can do a lot more with avocados than put them on toast.

Of course, we couldn’t make a cookbook list without a shoutout to our girl Chrissy Teigen and her Pad Thai Carbonara. Somehow Cravings: Hungry for More is even better than her debut title.

Our local restaurants and chefs are rallying the community, providing nourishing meals to those who need it most.
