IMAGE VIA SHAPE TRAINING
There’s a difference between casually working out and fully dedicating yourself to maintaining an athlete-level lifestyle. And Pittsburgh’s SHAPE Training gets it. That’s why they’re committed to providing an atmosphere for those willing to dig deep, accept the challenge, and value working hard to improve. Have any doubts? They’ll make you a believer the second you walk into their Penn Ave. space.
Offering everything from personal training to small group classes and open gym memberships, SHAPE has all the tools you need to become a stronger, better version of yourself.
Founded in April 2013 by president Yardon Brantley, SHAPE Training has evolved from providing in-home training and free bootcamps at Schenley Oval to opening gyms in East Liberty and East Pittsburgh. And now, they’ve upped the ante once again, moving from their original digs to a larger, 12,765-square-foot space in East Liberty.
Just down the street from the Ace Hotel, SHAPE’s location at 5916 Penn Ave. features separate rooms for cardio, small classes, lifting, and personal training. If cardio is your jam, you can expect top-of-the-line, self-powered equipment, including TrueForm Runners, an upgraded treadmill featuring both turf and track surfaces. So, if you’re accustomed to setting your speed and incline and zoning out to a rerun of Friends, this is not the place. Oh, and did we mention there’s a boxing ring, too?
New to the workout scene? No worries. The coaches at SHAPE Training will guide you through every exercise, tailoring your sweat sessions to meet your interests and fitness level, all they ask is they you never stop working toward improvement. Not only do they have suggested workouts posted on the wall for those with a general membership, they are also available to offer advice and answer questions as you build your new lifestyle.
With all that work, recovery is pretty important. Which is why the East Liberty space has a room dedicated to just that. Relieve those tired and fatigued muscles with a nice ice bath or slip on NormaTec PULSE Recovery System devices. You can also refuel with Athletic Greens supplements or purchase some apparel from their very own lululemon line (your new favorite workout gear is available for purchase on the second floor). Working parent? They have daycare, too.
Ready for the challenge? The Penn Ave. location officially opened its doors February 1, 2019. At SHAPE, they’ll help you make small gains intended to set you up for long-term success. And, trust us — you’ll be completely hooked on this ATH-ELITE style of living.
