Pittsburgh’s coffee scene is no joke. With dozens of cafes across each PGH neighborhood, yinzers never have to venture far for a caffeine fix. Whether you’re looking for organic roasts, specialty flavors, handcrafted lattes, or vegan pastries, you’re sure to find a coffee shop that delivers what you’re after and then some.
And lucky for us, the ever-growing list of trendy Pittsburgh coffee shops is now even longer. The masterminds behind The Vandal in Lawrenceville have teamed up with the Portland, Oregon-based Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. to deliver something completely unique to the East End — and they’re callin’ it The Bureau.
Schoolhouse Electric is establishing their new Steel City digs (appropriately named Schoolhouse Pittsburgh) in the Detective Building on N. Euclid Ave. But that’s not all. Nestled inside this new high-end lighting, housewares, and furnishings store, you’ll find The Bureau — a cafe that’s all about fresh espresso and good eats. Because what better way to elevate your shopping experience than with a steaming coffee in hand?
The Bureau is brewing a rotation of roasters all the way from Portland, so you can expect a new lineup with every visit. And if you’re looking for a little something extra to pair with your espresso, you’ve gotta try the smørrebrød — an open-faced Danish sandwich created with unique flavor combinations (like squash, ham, and sage) that you won’t soon forget.
The space itself is all about design and hospitality, so you know the aesthetics are gonna be on point. Plus, on those rare sunny Pittsburgh days, you can head to the public outdoor plaza to take your iced coffee with a side of fresh air (and free Wi-Fi).
The Bureau has been servin’ up hot brews and healthy snacks since October 2018, stop by to sample the fresh new flavors they’re bringing to the table.
