Okay, here’s what we know: There’s a surprise 5K popping-up in Pittsburgh. It’s set to happen later this week, Thursday, July 13 at 7pm. Oh, by the way, it’s free.
You’re probably wondering where it’s going down. Well, we literally can’t tell you! Our friends over at the Steel City Road Runners will release the details the morning of the race. It’s all part of their annual summer series of Flash 5Ks popping up all over Pittsburgh.
But that’s not all: This week there will be some special “post-race activities”. Sorry! We were sworn to secrecy, but you won’t want to miss this. And you might want to come hungry with a few extra bucks. Popsburgh and the Coop Chicken and Waffles food truck will be on-site for refueling.
Sounds like fun, right? Of course, it does. You get to show up to a surprise race, hang out with other folks trying to get fit, or become a better runner. And best of all it’s totally free. Yeah, that’s pretty great.
Alright, now that you know about this secretive race series, here’s what you need to do if you plan to participate. First, pay attention to the pop-up dates — there will be one race each month during the summer (of course we’ll keep you in the loop!). Once you know the date, have your running gear ready because the Steel City Road Runners won’t release the location until the day of the race.
After they do, you have to hustle over to the surprise location in a hurry to be there in time to take off with the starting gun.
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
