We are a few weeks into 2015 and you’re totally rocking that new year’s resolution of yours, right?
Oh yeah. About that.
Look. You don’t have to explain anything to us. Resolutions are a tricky thing. It’s hard to make them stick. Which is one of the reasons we created the #Fittsburgh Challenge to begin with. To make being healthy a thing throughout the year, not just at the start of new year. For that reason the #Fittsburgh Challenge isn’t a resolution, it’s a revolution.
One reason resolutions don’t work is because you have to do all of the work yourself. And let’s be honest, it’s hard to make a change all by your lonesome.
No worries, friend! We’ve got your back. Actually, there are more than 30,000 people who joined the #Fittsburgh Challenge who have your back! Now all you have to do is connect with other people just like you who are trying to eat well, move more and buy local.
And that’s what part two of the #Fittsburgh Challenge is all about, rallying around your fellow Fittsburghers (or revolutionaries, if you prefer) to make sure that all this momentum becomes a movement capable of transforming Pittsburgh into the healthiest city in the nation!
Step 1. Join the challenge
Wait, you haven’t joined the challenge yet? Seriously?! You’re really killing the whole revolution vibe we’ve got going here. Look if you’re not into eating well, moving more and buying local, that’s cool (we guess?). But if you are, you should totally join the challenge now.
Step 2. Connect with the community
The coolest part about the #Fittsburgh Challenge is that moment after you’ve joined when you realize you’re part of a community. There’s a huge group of likeminded Pittsbughers who are trying to get or stay healthy. And now you can all connect.
How, you ask? Simple. Search #Fittsburgh on Twitter. Bam! Everyone who has taken the #Fittsburgh Challenge at your fingertips. Same goes for Instagram. Hit them up. Share recipes and run routes. Plan group workouts or meet ups. At minimum we can be a source of motivation for one another, so show some love to the Fittsburgh Community.
Step 3. Set a New Goal
When it comes to going healthy or sticking to a new exercise habit, it helps to set a goal. Come on! You have to have something to work towards. An outcome to be accountable to. So what do you say?
We know, you should totally sign up to run a race. And around here there’s no better race to run than the Pittsburgh Marathon.
Yeah, yeah. We hear you. You’re not quite ready for all 26.2 miles. Well the folks at Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc heard you too. That’s why there are different distances, including a 5K, half-marathon, relay teams and the full marathon. All you have to do is sign up.
Then once you’re registered, you can join the Steel City Road Runner – the largest running club in Pittsburgh – who will help you get in racing shape. And be sure to keep us posted on your progress using #GameonPGH. We can’t wait to see you cross the finish line.
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
