Who’s ready for some sun salutations? True sun salutations.
That’s right friends — outdoor yoga season is here, and it’s bigger and better than ever.
There’s no denying that our city is bursting with cycling, yoga, and fitness studios. And. We. Love. Them. But when summer comes around, there’s nothing quite like grabbing your mat and heading to one of Pittsburgh’s coolest outdoor venues for a workout under the sun.
It’s baaaccckkk! Yoga in the Square is a fan favorite in Pittsburgh. And if you’re one of those fans, we’ve got some good news. It’s happening again this summer! Join hundreds of yogis in Pittsburgh’s charming Market Square for hour-long yoga classes all summer long. Check out our schedule of instructors here. The square will be hopping, and the Vinyasas will be flowing. Oh, and did we mention it’s free? Sundays, 10am, May – September.
You can’t get more Pittsburgh than this one. On Wednesday evenings this summer, you can roll out your mat atop the city’s famous Mt. Washington overlook. Yoga is all about power and serenity – and you’re sure to feel both of those doing your favorite yoga moves looking over Pittsburgh’s most famous view. Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30pm, May – September.
Homestead’s LocalMotion and Studio AM (that’s Baron Batch’s artsy operation) want to bring you one hell of a day. Really, you won’t want to miss Yoga Bike + Brunch. You’ll start out in The Color Park along the South Side portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. You’ll have an hour of morning yoga, then follow the LocalMotion squad (by bike!) along the trail to Studio AM in Homestead for an unforgettable brunch. August 26
PGH yoga instructor/mermaid/animal-lover Melissa Lucciola gets to share all of her favorite things with you in the summer months. There are the BOGAYOGA classes done on a BOGAFIT board (basically a tethered SUP) in the North Park’s pool. And there are plenty of SUP yoga opportunities on North Park Lake too, including the standard SUP yoga, SUP yoga during a full moon, and even SUP with Your Pup (your dog requires a life vest, though). Stay up to date on Facebook for the next awesome (or pawsome) event.
Ready for somethin’ a little classy? Inhale Pittsburgh has got you. And hint: it’s not a rooftop bar… but it IS a rooftop yoga class. Every Monday at 6:30pm, you can head nine floors up at the Hotel Monaco for a yoga sesh that’s unlike any other. Take in the city lights, warm air and candlelight, then head downstairs to The Commoner for a free beer or wine. Mondays, 6:30 – 7:30pm.
That’s right, yinz. If you’re a sleep-in-on-Sunday kind of person, don’t worry. The fun, sweat, and yoga in the square doesn’t stop on Sundays. This year, this ever-popular summer event is expanding to Wednesday evenings. After work, you can head to the square to get your flow on with Pittsburgh’s best instructors. And maybe—just maybe—grab a drink or a bite in the square afterward (we mean, you worked hard. AND you made it to Wednesday). Wednesdays, 5:30 – 6:30pm, June – September.
Let’s face it. We love our rivers. And what better way to check out their beauty than settling in for some Chaturangas and a few Oms? This summer, Yoga Flow invites you to get your stretch on at Aspinwall Riverfront Park in front of the Allegheny River. Get in a good workout, enjoy the view, and check out the food trucks and juice afterward. Sundays, 11am – 12pm, June – September.
Station Square fans: this one’s for you. BYS Yoga is coming back to The Landing and Marina at Station Square for all-level, all-awesome classes. After all, Station Square is the place to be for yinzers and visitors alike. Plan your Saturday at the square and start the morning off right with some yoga. Saturdays, 10:30 – 11:30am, June – September.
Yoga, brunch, and drinks. Need we say more? Vinyasa on over to the Great Lawn at the Frick Pittsburgh for free classes on Saturday mornings this summer. And the best part? Who can’t smile with a bouquet of flowers in their arms? Pick it yourself, you say? After a refreshing one-hour flow in the flower field? Sure, let’s do it. Join local yogi Molly Vandora for an open-air flow in Simmons Farm’s flower field with view of wide open sky and peaceful pond. Afterward, pick bunches and bunches of wildflowers to take home. Fitt tip: Wave at Patches the Goat on the way into Simmons. Aug. 5; Aug. 12; Aug. 19, Aug. 26
Can’t get enough of the farm-yogi life? Jump on over to Churchview Farm in Baldwin for a morning or evening (depending on the date) flow on the farm. Count on 75-minutes of stretch and soul from SHPY’s Stacey Vespaziani and Ascend/BYS’s Raelynn Gigler. There will be sweat and there will be chicken sightings. Aug. 5; Aug. 17; Sept. 2; Sept. 21
We’re big fans of this North Side sweat spot because, well, it’s legit. And this summer, they’re stepping their game up even further with a free outdoor yoga class on The Plaza at Nova Place. This brand new courtyard-style lawn is really incredible, making it the perfect spot to find your flow. And for just $5, you can’t really pass up this practice. Saturdays, 10 – 11am
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
