There’s no denying the fact that Pittsburgh is a sports town. You can’t go anywhere without seeing someone rocking their Steelers gear, year round. And how ’bout that Cup parade?
But, these days, you could argue that Pittsburgh is quickly becoming a yoga town (sorry, tahn.) It’s true, folks! Everywhere you look there’s a new studio popping up. Heck, most of the time we don’t even need a studio. We just take over one of the coolest venues in the city and throw an incredible outdoor yoga class.
Best of all, this summer promises to keep that trend going. And the last thing we want is for you to miss out on the action. Which is why we whipped up your summer long schedule of outdoor yoga classes in Pittsburgh.
Every summer Jam on Walnut rocks Shadyside. This concert + block party series shuts down Walnut Street for live music, good times, and quite a few brews. But this year, we figured that since the road was already closed, we’d just do yoga before the concert. So we teamed up with Amazing Yoga, lululemon Pittsburgh, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to create Yoga Jam: an hour-long, all-levels flow in the middle of Walnut Street an hour prior to the party kicking off. Mark your calendars for June 25, July 23, and Aug 20, and come ready to sweat, stretch, and, jam on Walnut. 3rd Sat in June/July/August.
You’ve never been to Yoga in the Square (or PPG Wintergarden)? And you call yourself a yogi! Lucky for you, we’ve teamed up with our friends at the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership once again to offer a free yoga class in Market Square, all summer long. Join A TON of your fellow yogis for a few true sun salutations. And no, no one will have to set up on the cobblestones. 10am Sunday, May 29 – September 4.
When it comes to weekend yoga around the city, you have plenty of options. But if you’re looking to unwind in the middle of the week (and feel so incredibly Pittsburgh!), this is by far the coolest option. MoWa Yoga will help you destress high atop Mt. Washington “pod” overlooks across from St. Mary of the Mount Church. 6:30pm Wednesday, May 25 – September 14.
Each week throughout the summer, Schenley Plaza plays host to two yoga classes lead by Folding Space Yoga. The classes are held right on the lawn and offer crazy views of the Cathedral of Learning right in the heart of Oakland. 12pm Monday and 10am Saturday, June 4 – October 1.
When it comes to outdoor yoga classes, BYS has been leading the way for NINE years. They won’t break the streak this summer. Join them in Grandview Park, by entering at the corner of Bailey and Beltzhoover Avenues, for yoga class with one heck of a view. 10:30am Sunday, June 5 – September 25.
Breaking News: BYS Yoga is up to their same tricks but in a different spot. This summer, you can head to Station Square for a yoga sesh in Bessemer Court. That means next to that gigantic relic from the steel days and those fountains that dance to music. AND, classes are just 5 bucks. 10:30am, Saturday, June 4 – September 24.
South Hills Power Yoga is making sure that communities outside of the city aren’t left out of the outdoor yoga mix. Join the SHPY team, including instructors Mandy Newport and Kristen Hannan, at Dan McGibbeny Memorial Field for the fifth year of free classes at Brookline Park. 10am Saturday, June 4 – August 27.

How amazing was it last summer when PNC Park was transformed into a yoga studio? Super incredibly amazing, just so you know. But thank the Pirates, thank SHPY’s Stacey Vespaziani, heck, thank Oliver Onion that we can get back in center field for an unforgettable yoga sesh. Put OMs in the Outfield on your calendar, right now! 7am Sunday, September 11.
Get ready for a thrill, we’re doing yoga at Kennywood. Yes, this 60-minute all-levels practice will fill you with good vibes just as Potato Patch fries will surely fill your stomach. Our friend (and what seems to be “outdoor yoga guru”) Sarah Reed-Lieb will take you through a challenging flow, then beat you to the finish on The Racer – park admission is included, if you so choose. 8am Saturday, July 2.
We don’t even know where to start. Yoga. Ice Cream. Local farm. How…how does it get better than this? Together with our friends Sarah Reed-Lieb and Katie Clingan, we get to host a 75-minute all-levels practice at the beautiful Churchview Farm. Then, we get to stuff our faces with a cone of heavenly Millie’s Homemade. This is what dream are made of. 6pm on June 9, July 14, August 11, and September 8.
Our friends at the Yoga Hive have been hosting outdoor yoga at Highland Park more than five years now! Just like years prior, you’ll roll out a mat to the left of the fountain for an inspired, all-levels Vinyasa flow under the sun. 10am Summer Sundays starting June 5.
No yogi left behind. Seriously. The Yoga Hive is pulling out all stops and rolling out all mats to make sure you can get your Om on under the Pittsburgh sun. This time, Baum Grove will play host. Just remember your sunscreen, yoga mat, and water! Oh, and a $5-10 donation so we can keep doing this from now until forever. 3:30pm Summer Saturdays starting June 4.
Back at it again with the outdoor yoga! Yoga Hive pulls the trifecta in the North Side next to the National Aviary. (insert terrible busy bees joke here.) Families and friends always welcome, come for the outdoor yoga and you’ll feel free as a bird. 10am Summer Saturdays starting June 4.
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
