Ah Thanksgiving: a day of family and food.
Better make that lots and lots of food. Turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing galore! And of course we can’t forget the pumpkin pie. Seriously, what’s not to love? Could this day possibly get any better?
Well what if we told you there was a fun way to preemptively burn off those calories so you don’t feel as guilty about the looming food coma sure to strike after dinner? Sounds like a great idea, right? Right! If you’re looking to break a sweat before you snack, plan on participating in the largest Thanksgiving race in Pittsburgh, the annual PNC YMCA of Pittsburgh Turkey Trot.
The event offers a 1-mile fun run, 5k and 5-mile; or the first 250 registered participants can double the fun by entering in the Double Gobble, which includes both the 5k and the 5-mile. Take in the sights and sounds of the city, as each course starts in the North Shore, with the longer events spanning down by Point State Park and back.
Plus as an added bonus, you can say you raced for a good cause, not just for the last piece of pie. Talk about a good way to give back on a day meant for celebrating all that you have.
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
