This is the Shortest and Fastest Race in PGH

From the Pittsburgh Marathon to Just a Short Run to the Spring Thaw, the Steel City boasts quite the array of long-distance races. But are you more of a short distance enthusiast? Don’t fret, because the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile is right up your alley.

Well not an alley per say, but rather the main streets of downtown PGH! Every July, runners flood down Penn Ave, race around the convention center and back to Liberty Ave in both competitive and relaxed one-mile events.

The festivities kick off with the One for Fun event, for first- time mile runners and recreational runners ages 5-76. Then things get a little furrier with the Pup Trot, where dogs and owners of all ages hit the pavement. Following the tail-wagging event is the Kids of STEEL run for kids 13 and up, then the Masters event for competitive racers 40 years or older who can run a sub 8-minute mile.

After that, things heat up with the Unstoppable event. If you’re age 14-39 and can run a 6-minute mile or under, then show what you’ve got for a chance to get an award. Are you even faster than that? Runners under 4 minutes can contact the race coordinators in order to compete in the invite- only Pro Mile heats.
