We’re big fans of yoga. Our bodies are warming up to it too… And the only thing we love more than taking to the mat is getting to practice in a new place. If you feel that same way, you’re in luck. There are outdoor classes, unique events at iconic spots around the city, and so many incredible studios in Pittsburgh. And now, that list is about to get even longer.
We’ve been hard at work putting together a calendar of yoga classes that spans the summer and the city. There are some classic classes, like the return of Yoga in the Square. And a few brand new events, like Yoga Jam on Walnut. But we’re most excited about bringing people together to sweat, all while breaking down barriers to getting fit. See you on the mat.
You heard it here first, friends. Your favorite community yoga class is happening again this summer. We’ve teamed up with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and some of Pittsburgh’s most incredible yoga instructors to offer 14 free classes. Starting May 29 and running every Sunday through September 4, you’re invited to join us at 10am in Market Square for an hour-long outdoor yoga class. We’ll be releasing all of the details soon, but consider this fair warning. You won’t want to miss what we have in store for you. Every Sunday, May 29 – Sept. 4.
Here’s your chance to experience an outdoor yoga class and ice cream social in one. And get this – your studio for the day is a local farm. That’s right, Churchview Farm, known for their incredible farm-to-table dinner series, is playing host to a summer yoga series. Our friends Sarah Reed-Lieb and Kate Clingan will lead a 75-minute all-levels practice, followed by (wait for it…) ice cream or sorbet from Millie’s Homemade! This series spans the summer, so mark your calendar for June 9, July 14, August 11, and September 8.
Join us and our friend for a truly unique yoga class at the History Center in Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Secure your spot for an energizing yoga practice in the iconic Great Hall, located on the first floor of the History Center. Oh, there’s one more thing! After you roll up your mat, you’re free to explore all six floors of the History Center, including the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum. It’s a sweat session and history lesson in one! June/July/August.
The cat’s out of the bag. You can now do yoga with kittens in Pittsburgh. This is not a drill, people – call up your closest cat ladies and feline-friendly yogis for a chill flow with a room full of playful cats. You’re not dreaming. Cat yoga is a thing. Get to Yoga Digs in Greentree on the final Friday of every month for a Yoga with Cats class and prepare for kittens to nuzzle your leg while you’re in tree pose. This hour-long class starts at 6:30pm and ends with a cat cuddle + play sesh in the studio. Begins May 27.
So you’ve heard about Jam on Walnut, right? Of course you have. It’s the summer concert + block party series that shuts down Walnut Street in Shadyside for live music and good times (and quite a few brews). Well this year we’re teaming up with Amazing Yoga, lululemon Pittsburgh, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to create Yoga Jam: an hour-long, all-levels flow in the middle of Walnut Street an hour prior to the party kicking off. Mark your calendars for June 25, July 23, and Aug 20, and come ready to sweat, stretch, and, jam on Walnut. 3rd Sat in June/July/August.
Watching a Buccos game is great. Practicing yoga in the outfield before the game is better, we promise. If you agree, you’re going to want to reserve your spot for Oms in the Outfield. For the third year in a row, PNC Park is being transformed into a yoga studio for an amazing practice. From your downward dog, you’ll be able to see Cutch’s view of things…except upside down. The secret’s out too – thousands of yogis will be on hand for this incredible class on September 11. So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and grab your tickets, tuck your mat under your arm, and maybe paint on some eyeblack. September 11.
Sweat, sip, and snack your way through a Sunday morning at Spoonwood Brewing in Bethel Park. If you think that sounds too good to be true, you’re sadly mistaken. Because we teamed up with our friends, and your yoga instructors for the day, Sarah Reed-Lieb and Annie Federoff, for yet another yoga event. It’s part workout, part Sunday funday. Get ready for yoga, brunch, beer, and a tour of brewery. June 12.
Alright, here’s yet another reason to put May 29 on your calendar. We’re kicking off Yoga in the Square 2016 at 10am. But you already knew that, right?! Better still, the last Sunday in May also happens to be the first OpenStreets day of the summer. AND…there’s a yoga class happening in the middle of Smallman Street a little later in the day. Yoga @ KayaFest kicks off with a family friendly yoga class at 11am, followed by an all-levels practice at 11:45am. If you plan your morning right you can do Yoga in the Square followed by Yoga in the Strip! May 29.
If you’re from Pittsburgh, few things are better than spending a summer’s day at Kennywood. And as luck would have it, this event is one of the things on that shortlist. Thanks to Sarah Reed-Lieb you can practice yoga in the park before a day of rollercoaster riding, funnel cake eating fun. Sign up for this first-of-its-kind yoga class at Kennywood Park and receive a Ride All Day pass. You know, get a little sweat on before you hit up the Potato Patch. July 2.
We’ll keep you up to date on all things health, fitness and local food in Pittsburgh.
