Portland’s yoga scene is endless — our city's studios offer classes at different paces, temperatures, and styles. But in case you're not sure where to start, this guide will help you discover your new favorite yoga class.

For a truly zen experience, check out Love Hive Yoga on Burnside, NE Fremont, and Woodstock. The community at both is exceptionally warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place for yoga newbies who may be a bit nervous. Classes are both heated and unheated, and most are Vinyasa-based. These flows are a bit gentler than your average class, but in a good way — you’ll leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to conquer the world.

This inclusive studio welcomes any and all yogis with open arms, and will fill you up with good energy you'll be vibing off long after you've left. In their Northeast feel-good factory, they offer everything from traditional Vinyasa and Hatha to "Shadow Yoga" and classes that integrate functional fitness exercises. But no matter what sort of practice you're into, you can expect exceptional instructors to guide you through from your first asana to your last.

With locations all over the city, national chain CorePower is the perfect place to turn up the heat on your practice. You won't find a slow and meditative yoga experience here, they're kicking things up a notch, offering high-powered heated and non-heated sweat sessions that mix together cardio, strength training, and traditional yoga poses to achieve a soothing-yet-heart-pounding workout (we didn’t think it was possible either). No worries if you're still new to the game, though, their classes are categorized based on skill level. They've got you whether you're a beginner still trying to get the hang of things or a veteran yogi moving through your practice with ease.

Easily one of the most beautiful yoga spaces in Portland, you’ll instantly feel blissed out lying underneath the amazing ceiling of lanterns at this studio. Not just a pretty face, this NE spot boasts a schedule full of variety offering Vinyasa, Yin, candlelight restorative, and more. And if you’re feeling like mixing up your yoga practice, Namaste on Williams has you covered with regular special events and classes like SUP, silent disco, and rooftop yoga.

This N Skidmore St. studio knows a thing or two about breaking a sweat because this homegrown yoga spot combines muscle sculpting moves with dynamic flows to create a fun and effective workout you won't find anywhere else. Think of their classes as a high-intensity interval workout that’s part strength training, part yoga practice, and all kinds of sweaty! Fitt Tip: they also host run club that's free to join and meets up on Saturday mornings for a fresh-air jaunt around the city.

This alignment-based yoga studio operates out of a gorgeous historic chapel complete with all sorts of natural light and stained glass windows, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere to get your flow on. And, in addition to their regular, traditional Hatha and Vinyasa flow yoga practice they also have a meditation room and an outdoor terrace where they host summertime classes when the weather gets warmer. Don't own a mat or need to borrow a prop? No problem. They have community mats and blocks that everyone is free to use.

Designed to be your sweaty home away from home, this hot yoga studio comes with all the amenities you could ever want, including spacious changing rooms, lockers, cedar showers, and a partnership with Greenleaf Juicing Company. Yoyoyogi has three different practices under one roof; including heated, power Vinyasa, and gentle meditation classes. They feature a stacked schedule of energizing flows, like hot Vinyasa and acro-yoga. They often host themed classes and outdoor flows during the spring and summer.

Stop by this yoga community on Fremont St. for a challenging practice that is also warm (literally, it's heated) and enveloping. Yeah, you’re going to sweat, your muscles may shake, and you may be counting down the moments until savasana, but the traditional Bikram practice will teach you a thing or two about mind over matter. You'll have to dig deep to get through a class here, but the object isn't to nail every pose. Instead, you'll focus on keeping your breath steady even when your body is putting in major work.

The People’s Yoga IS Portland. Their mission? Get people on the yoga train regardless of economic barriers. They offer work/study arrangements, scholarships, and affordable monthly memberships. With 90 classes a week and over 30 different instructors, you'll be able to find a style of practice and instructor that suits you. From a powerful Vinyasa to mindful Hatha, the expert instruction at their studios will make a yogi out of you yet.

While you can find a wide range of classes here from beginner to expert, the studio is unique in that it really focuses on the whole body, inside and out. The space is shared with a Wellness Center, which offers acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, energy healing, and other healing sessions. But perhaps the best way to nourish your body and soul while here is to grab a juice or healthy salad at Prasad (on-site!).

When you need to get away from it all, seek shelter at Yoga Refuge. They’ll gladly take you into their Montavilla studio for a soulful and sweaty yoga sesh. With Yin, Vinyasa, Hatha, and so much more, your hosts will challenge your body, break down stress, and set you at peace before you head back to the daily grind. They also aim to build a community — members can bring a friend along for free, and they offer classes at a sliding scale rate most mornings.

Yoga Shala’s mission is to bring yoga to everybody in an accessible way while still holding firm to yoga traditions. This North Portland studio does just that in a beautiful, high-ceiling studio. Yoga Shala has a classic roster of offerings including Hatha, Yin, and Shadow Yoga, but they also offer kid's classes, PreNatal, and Mommy & Me sessions. In addition to weekly offerings they also have regular drum circles and other musical events to help get your heart pounding in other ways.

If you like your yoga hot, this is the studio for you. You will undoubtedly get a good sweat in — the thermostat is generally set between 95-100º each class, and the studio has showers on site so you can still practice with a busy schedule. This place prides itself on being affordable, too — you can get monthly unlimited classes for under 70 bucks. They also offer free classes for active duty military, disabled veterans, firefighters, and police. It doesn't get much better than that!

There’s no excuse from staying off the mat at Yoga on Yamhill; this studio runs solely on donations, and no financial limitations should keep you from practicing. The studio suggests a minimum donation of $8 per class, and you can drop a donation in cash or online. With payment out of the way, you can bliss out with the studio’s traditional offerings of Yin, Vinyasa, and Hatha classes.
