We all know nothing beats walking away from a particularly brutal workout with a sweat-soaked shirt, your head held high, and a fresh rush of endorphins. Well, thanks to CITYROW, Portlanders now have a new place to break a sweat and catch that endorphin high.
The studio, opening in the Pearl in late summer 2019, combines full-body strength training with grueling rowing drills for a workout that’s high intensity, low impact, and super efficient. And while your endurance and will power are going to be put to the test, we promise you’ll always be happy you went.
They say a single rowing stroke works 84% of the muscles in your body, so we hope you’re prepared to put in some serious work. Though, in CITYROW’s signature class you won’t just pick a rower and go through the motions for 50 minutes. Nope, during this cardio-heavy workout you’ll switch between drills on their custom, water-based rowers and resistance exercises off the machine that target your arms, legs, and core. (We warned you this wouldn’t be easy.)
Never been to a rowing class? No worries. Classes are suited for newbies and veterans alike. That’s why each session starts with a warm-up that focuses on proper rowing technique before launching into a series of all-out circuits that will get your whole body in on the action. Then, you’ll cool down with a group stretch before wiping the sweat away and riding those feel-good vibes all day long.
So what will Portland’s first CITYROW location look like? Imagine classic Pearl District meets nautical — a spacious studio with high ceilings, garage doors, white brick and wood, metal fixtures, and blue detailing.
And, of course, luxury rowers will fill the space (the Pearl studio will be stocked with at least 18), they’ll have water for purchase, and offer complimentary towels for every workout — you’re going to need them. Not to mention it’ll be located within walking distance of some of our favorite healthy eats, like Whole Bowl and Greenleaf Juicing Co. So after you’ve fully fatigued your muscles, you can treat yourself to an Almond Berry Smoothie with pea protein (our personal fave, but you be the judge).
Opening day details are still being kept on the down-low, but when we know, you’ll know. And, in the meantime, you can sign up for early access and keep an eye on their social media for updates on the official ribbon cutting.
