Arms & Abs on Monday; Full Body on Tuesday; Chest, Back, & Abs on Wednesday; Abs & Ass on Thursday… Portland, we hope you’re ready to get every muscle in your body burning because Barry’s Bootcamp is bringing its signature, hardcore workout to the Pearl District.
Seeing as Portland's fitness scene is alive, well, and expanding rapidly, it makes perfect sense that Barry’s is finally opening a studio in the city. And we’re down with the vibe.
Coined the “Red Room,” their dimly-lit (with red lights) studio is where the magic happens. Classes include rounds of high-intensity interval training on treadmills and strength training using free weights and resistance bands on the floor. With energetic and motivational instructors and powerful, curated playlists, this 50-minute workout is sure to hype you up.
Each round, the class switches from the tread to the floor for a different sequence of running and lifting. Not in the mood to run? No sweat (lies — there still will be lots of sweat). Take on Double Floor, a no-treadmill option for the days when you just aren’t feeling it. This means you repeat the floor rounds and never have to step foot on a tread. And don’t worry — even without the running, you’ll be sore for days.
At Barry’s, the exercises are always different and no two classes are ever the same. Each day focuses on a different muscle group, but they all start and end with a friendly high-five from your instructor. That means your lower-body work on Tuesday might still be lingering when your backside gets all the attention on Thursday. And there are no days off for the weekend, with Saturday designated as a full-body class with upper focus and Sunday giving you a top-to-bottom tune-up.
With the mix of loud beats and positive vibes, instructors will have you digging deeper while pushing you to your limit. While the results speak for themselves, Barry’s says it best: “tone muscles, maximizes fat loss, and increases your metabolism, so you actually burn calories even after class is over.” They’ve got the science—and the instructors have the abs—to prove it.
Oh, and did we mention all the extras you’ll enjoy when you’re not torching calories? Yep, you can expect complimentary towels, fully-stocked locker rooms with beauty products, and a Fuel Bar for post-workout protein smoothies.
