Celebrate Peak Avocado Season at These Avo-Centric Events in San Diego

Summer in San Diego means one thing: peak avocado season. Obviously, we’re into it.

This year, San Diego is honoring Hass season with local events celebrating the fruit (yes, it’s a fruit!) all summer long. We’re already prepping out Instagram feeds for an influx of green.

Let’s break down SD’s avocado obsession.

San Diegans can kick off the green season with a one-day avo extravaganza on June 9 at Chosen Foods’ Avolution Fest. Hosted at Quartyard in East Village, this foodie fest will feature avo-centric food and cocktails — and avo-themed art installations (hello, Insta-fame!). Artists Wild Belle, Baynk, and The Young Wild will take the stage in the evening so you can groove and move between superfood sips and snacks.

Later in June, we’ll be keeping the craze going at The Cado — a one-of-a-kind pop-up museum dedicated to San Diego’s favorite fruit. This museum will take you into the world of an avocado with seven rooms that’ll school you on this superfood. Our favorite room: the Ripe Room, which is lined with what feels like the skin of avocados and a lesson from our favorite avo farmer, Jason Mraz, on how to pick top-notch produce. The museum opens doors in Liberty Station on June 16 and closes shop on September 1, so get in while you can.

Don’t worry, though — San Diego’s obsession with this piece of produce is looking long-term. Brooklyn’s Avocaderia— the “world’s first avocado bar”—is planning to expand out west to America’s Finest City. This Shark Tank-famed foodie favorite serves up all avocado, all day, with a menu stacked with avocado toast variations, avo-based smoothies and salads, and a famed avocado chocolate mousse. That’s a big deal.

TBD on neighborhood or opening dates yet, but we’re already excited. And, if anything, all-avocado everything is a healthy trend that’ll be celebrated in SD well past September.
