While San Diego’s healthy food scene is vibrant and constantly growing, Farmer’s Table—a local favorite in La Mesa—has been holding a top spot for years, thanks to their focus on scratch cooking and use of seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. And while their OG location will always hold a special place in locals’ hearts, the eclectic eatery is expanding quickly with new locations in Bay Park and Little Italy.
Much in part to their healthy, homestyle cooking and laid-back atmosphere, Farmer’s Table feels like home from the moment you walk through the door. And despite boasting a menu filled with veggie-forward dishes and grass-fed game meats, every meal feels indulgent and satisfying rather than a burdensome dietary obligation, as choosing healthy food often can. Favorites include their wood-fired pizzas (gluten-free crust is available!) and burnt carrot salad that’ll make you rethink everything you’ve ever considered “rabbit food”.
If you’re a hardcore bruncher (who isn’t?), the Table’s new locations will offer the awesomely over-the-top bloody marys that made their La Mesa spot famous, but don’t worry — there’s housemade granola and superfood frittatas to balance it all out. If you’re looking to go all-out and grub hard, we recommend ordering a benedict or the pancake trio, which is a sampling of three super-indulgent, super-delicious hot cakes.
If you’ve been wanting to try the locally famous healthy fare at Farmer’s Table but haven’t been willing to make the trek out to La Mesa, now’s the time to hit up their newly opened Bay Park location before the crowds emerge.
