  • Farmer’s Table

    With a new eatery now open in Bay Park, this SD favorite is spreading the health, opening yet another location in Little Italy in early 2019. No matter which Farmer’s Table locale you stop into, though, (they also have a spot in La Mesa), you can expect scratch-made meals filled with locally- and seasonally-sourced ingredients. Just make sure you don’t forget to pair your guilt-free dish with one of their extravagantly topped Bloody Mary’s.

    As of October, Encinitas is now home to a “ little pocket of weirdness” called The Far West Lounge. This new Modern Times Beer location is all about unique and rotating tap brews and delicious vegan foods. Plus, the mid-century maximalist interiors tie everything together for an experience that will not disappoint.

    Washington, DC native CAVA has found its niche in Encinitas. Since October, this Mediterranean eatery has been serving customizable salads, pitas, and grain bowls that we just can’t get enough of. And with a menu packed with seasonal roasted vegetables, hummus, tzatziki, falafel, grilled chicken, couscous, and an array of healthy dressings, we don’t blame you if you find an excuse to eat here every day of the week.

    When they say “Big Front Door”, they mean it — this place is wide open, letting that year-round ocean breeze envelop BFD’s atmosphere. Even better, this local sandwich shop prepares all its quality ingredients in-house and sticks to its California roots through and through, serving mouth-watering sandwiches like Avocado Highway, Cali Cubano, and Loins Of Fire. BFD’s brand new Park Blvd. location opened at the end of October, so you can now officially enjoy the fresh air and healthy SD vibes.

    If you live in Little Italy it’s time to get excited because beloved eatery Parakeet Café has officially brought their delicious menu of decadent toasts, salads and bowls, and craft coffee and teas, plus quirky décor to the neighborhood. We’re talking parakeets (of course) and palm leaves adorning the walls and pink neon lights to pose in front of with your meal. Their new digs opened in December, but if you’re not nearby you can always hit up their OG location in La Jolla fort creative and healthy dishes.

    If you’re looking for a fitness studio that mixes it up, look no further. The Dailey Method offers barre and cycling classes that will help lengthen, strengthen and sculpt your body. And with so many different options, from high-energy cardio to challenging mash-up classes, your workout will be anything but routine. Their new downtown location opened on January 3 — just in time for you to conquer all your New Year’s resolutions.

    North Park is about to be doing a whole lot of toasting — with bread that is. Son of a Toast is San Diego’s first dedicated toast and cold brew bar, and dare we say, this breakfast and brunch staple has never looked so appetizing. With toppings like fresh avocado, sliced strawberries, and goat cheese curds drizzled with balsamic glaze, the menu here will keep your mornings exciting. Oh, and don’t forget their creative cold brew cocktails (sans alcohol) made with all sorts of unique bitters flavors. While no opening date is set, keep your eyes peeled — this toast bar is coming SD’s way soon.

    This spring, Carmel Valley is getting a little taste of NorCal thanks to a new specialty coffee joint. Blue Bottle Coffee is a San Francisco staple, but its sustainable espressos, cold brews, and pastries are making their way down south. But Carmel Valley is just stop one. Look out for a second SD outpost coming to downtown later this year, too.

    Ever since January 14, this Pacific Beach eatery has been making everyone’s favorite food a little more guilt-free. Powerhaus Pizza serves perfectly-cooked crusts made with whole wheat and flax seeds and topped with tons of veggies, grass-fed dairy, and all-natural meats. New year, new pizza, as they say!
